Chapter 1000 How Can I Sleep Like This?
After a long pause, she finally said, "You don't have to be so down. Medicine's advanced now; there's still hope."
"I don't know. Holding you like this, I really want to make love to you, but I can't get an erection," Joseph admitted, clearly frustrated and in pain.
Cassie's face turned even redder. She gritted her teeth. "Joseph."
"I'm being honest," Joseph said bitterly. "Cassie, even if the Hernandez family is gone, as long as I love you, I won't give up on winning you back. We were so in love once. I think about you all the time. I want to remember our past. At least in my memory, our love has a beginning and an end."
"Don't be crazy," Cassie instinctively scolded him. "Trying to recover your memory is risky. You could end up an idiot."
Joseph stared at her for a moment, then smiled gently. "Cassie, you still care about me."
"You're nuts." Cassie rolled her eyes. She was actually worried Sophia's dad would become an idiot.
"I'm worried Sophia will have to take care of an idiot when she grows up," she shouted angrily.
"Not happening." Joseph shook his head stubbornly. He placed her on the bed, lowered himself, and cupped her face, his eyes filled with pain. "Cassie, I want to pursue you, but I'm afraid I can't make you happy. Promise me, divorce David. Even if you marry Tyler or Billy, I won't bother you anymore."
Cassie almost wanted to kick him in the groin, but considering he couldn't get an erection, she stopped and gritted her teeth. "Joseph, are you out of your mind? Do you think marriage is a joke? Divorce or marry when you say so. Why should I listen to you?"
"I'm doing this for your own good," Joseph replied.
"Thanks a lot. Because of you, I became a divorced woman. Now you want me to divorce again and prepare for another marriage. Do you think I don't need any reputation? Well, my reputation was ruined by you long ago." Cassie's eyes turned red with anger.
"Don't cry." Joseph's heart almost broke.
"Joseph, I beg you, please stop interfering in my life. I've decided to live well with David," Cassie pleaded weakly. She really didn't like being entangled with him like this; it tormented her.
Joseph's heart grew heavier. "Didn't you listen to what I said last time? David is not a simple man."
"I know he's not simple, but as long as he's good to me, that's enough," Cassie interrupted him. "I checked, and he's fine. Joseph, please stop trying to drive a wedge between us."
"I'm not." Joseph had a headache, unsure how to convince her. "I was attacked in the police station by someone David sent."
Cassie was stunned. "Do you have evidence?"
"It was done by a prisoner in the same cell as me. Someone also drugged my food; otherwise, I wouldn't have had no chance to resist," Joseph said firmly. "It couldn't be anyone else. Trust me."
"I want to trust you, but have you ever given me a reason to? Everything you say is just speculation." Cassie shook her head. "You did take his wife away. If I were him, I'd want to cripple you too."
Joseph laughed angrily, thinking, 'How could she be so unreasonable?'
He was sure David was definitely not a good person.
But lately, Dragon's manpower was stretched thin, and David was hiding too well, so they hadn't caught him yet.
Cassie looked at him. "Joseph, to put it bluntly, you're just selfish. You don't want to see me with David, so you're trying to find reasons. You're despicable."
Joseph knew he couldn't persuade her, so he simply answered, "Yes, I'm despicable. The man you choose must be approved by me to make sure he's okay."
"Go to hell." Cassie couldn't take it anymore and kicked his thigh.
Joseph groaned in pain, clamping her leg between his. "Kick all you want; it won't make a difference."
"Let go." Cassie was speechless, her face flushed. Even if he was impotent, he couldn't do this. She was a woman; she would have a normal reaction. It was so embarrassing.
"I won't let go." Joseph looked at her shy and embarrassed expression, his eyes filled with a soft smile. "Go to sleep."
"How can I sleep like this?" Cassie was going crazy. She really wanted to hit him, but she was afraid of waking up Sophia next to them. "Joseph, don't make me hate you."
"When have you not hated me?" Joseph smiled helplessly. "Cassie, I can't help it. I really can't."
"You deserve to be impotent," Cassie couldn't take it anymore and cursed softly. She hadn't wanted to hurt him before.
"Say that again?" Joseph narrowed his eyes. "You don't know me well enough. Even if I'm impotent, I can still make you climax."
When it came to being a rogue, Cassie was no match for him.
Instead, she was tormented by him until her face blushed.
In the end, she could only glare at him, and finally, she fell asleep.
She didn't know that Joseph had been watching her the whole time. Only when he was sure she was asleep did he lower his head and gently kiss her forehead.
Joseph said to himself inwardly, 'Cassie, if the man you married now wasn't David, I might have let go. But he's David, I can't let you be in danger.'
The next day, Cassie was woken up by Sophia's laughter.
"Mommy, you really came." Sophia lay on top of her, laughing like a little angel. "Mommy, did you stay with me all night?"
Cassie opened her eyes and suddenly remembered she was in Joseph's bedroom. She quickly sat up and looked at the bed. It was just her and Sophia.
"Sophia, keep your voice down. Don't let Joseph hear you call me Mommy," Cassie hugged her and reminded her.
"I know. I'll be carefull." Sophia pursed her lips, but the dimples on her face were very obvious as she smiled.
Cassie touched her forehead. "That's great, you don't have a fever anymore."
"Yeah, the doctor is amazing." Sophia guiltily buried her little face in Cassie's arms. "Mommy, I'm all better."
