Chapter 14 Blessed with a baby boy
Although she had earned a million dollars from projects over the past two years, she had dutifully handed all the money over to Helen.
She usually used the card Robert gave her for daily expenses. With the cards frozen, she was left with only a salary card with just several thousand dollars.
The receptionist politely asked, "Do you still need to check in?"
She took out her salary card but hesitated for a moment.
Staying at this hotel would cost at least a few hundred dollars a night. Given the current situation, she wouldn't be returning to the Brooks family anytime soon.
She had no job and no place to stay. If she used up this money, how would she live?
Cassie said softly, "No, thank you."
She turned and left with her luggage.
Many hotels were fully booked late at night. After wandering around for a while, she finally found a budget hotel to check into.
However, someone took a photo of her entering the hotel and posted it in their high school group chat.
Meanwhile, after arriving at the hospital, Joseph was greeted by Beckett Brown, the head of the veterinary hospital.
Joseph sat tensely at the door, waiting.
He deeply regretted marrying a woman he didn't even know.
Fifteen minutes later, the emergency room door opened.
Beckett came out, and Joseph immediately walked up, his face tense. "How is it?"
Beckett adjusted his glasses and smiled. "Your cat is two weeks pregnant."
Joseph took a deep breath, struggling to contain his anger.
Two weeks?
That meant it happened before they came to Silverwood, back in Whisperlyn City when some unknown cat took advantage. If he ever found that cat, he would skin it alive.
"It seems you're not happy about this pregnancy. Do you want to terminate it?" Beckett, having seen all kinds of pet owners, quickly guessed. "If you don't want the kittens, you can have the cat spayed and the fetuses removed, but that's quite cruel. I just checked; there are three kittens inside."
Before he could finish, he felt a cold, murderous intent directed at him. Beckett shivered and didn't dare to continue.
Joseph asked grimly, "Do cats vomit when they're pregnant, like humans?"
"Not necessarily. It depends on the cat's constitution," Beckett explained with a smile. "Some people might mistakenly think the cat has a stomach problem or ate something bad."
Joseph was taken aback. Wasn't this a reflection of his actions?
He had just blamed everything on Cassie. It was his misunderstanding.
He rubbed his temples in frustration, wondering how Cassie was doing now. When he left, he might have even pushed her down.
Joseph said, "Alright, I want to know what other symptoms cats have when they're pregnant and how to take care of them."
Beckett then spent over ten minutes explaining, even giving him a manual on cat pregnancy care, and advised, "Pregnant cats need proper nutrition. Your cat has a weak constitution and is prone to miscarriage. It's best to have someone take good care of her."
He thought of Cassie again, wondering if he'd been too harsh this time.
He told himself, "Forget it. I can hold off on asking her to leave for now."
Back at Emerald Bay, he opened the door and turned on the lights.
The guest room door was open, and it was empty—not even any clothes.
He furrowed his brow. Cassie had left. Dakota, in his arms, let out a listless whimper, looked around, and then hung his head in disappointment.
Maybe Cassie's departure was for the best. They shouldn't have had much to do with each other anyway.
When the time for divorce came, he could give her more money as compensation.
As for Dakota, he would hire a nanny to take care of him.
