Chapter 470
After ascending the stairs, Cassie fought off waves of nausea before stumbling into the bathroom to empty her stomach. She had overindulged in alcohol the previous night, and her stomach hadn't settled since.
Once she regained her composure, she unfolded the document in her hand. The bold red letters stating "No Blood Relation" immediately caught her eye, and she cursed under her breath.
It appeared that Luna wasn't Leo Chapman's daughter after all – Leo had forsaken his own mother to marry Vera for the child she was carrying. Now it seemed that Vera had been unfaithful to Leo over two decades ago, and the other man had to be Atlas. How else could Luna bear such a striking resemblance to Leo Chapman?
Cassie carefully stowed the file away. This information was explosive, but it wasn't the right time to disclose it.
As she pondered her next move, a call from Doctor Angelino interrupted her thoughts: "Miss Brooks, there was a fire at my residence last night. Thankfully, I heeded your previous warning and managed to escape through the back door after returning home. You have an uncanny ability to foresee trouble."
"Good, have your assistant announce that you tragically perished in the fire. Lay low for now, and continue treating my father in secret," Cassie responded, a chill running down her spine at the audacity of Atlas – the man had the nerve to target a world-renowned doctor. Fortunately, Leo Chapman's stringent security measures had made a direct attack on him impossible, so Angelino had been the next best target.
At this moment, Atlas and his associates must believe Doctor Angelino to be dead.
............
At the Chapman family estate.
Vera let out a smug laugh upon hearing the news of Doctor Angelino's demise. "He didn't disappoint. With Angelino gone, Leo's chances of recovery are slim. That fool Cassie must be weeping, guarding the hospital so fervently."
Luna, puzzled, inquired, "Mom, who are you talking about? Is it my dad?"
"Yes, your father is on his way here. You'll meet him formally in a moment; we're going to rely on him from now on," Vera said, patting her head. Despite her contempt for the man, she had to admit he could provide what she desired. Unlike Leo Chapman, who, despite her sacrifices, always yearned for that wretched woman Isabella.
A glimmer of anticipation flashed in Luna's eyes.
Minutes later, a man in a wheelchair was ushered into the room.
Luna was taken aback at the sight of him, but then everything fell into place. It was no wonder she resembled Leo Chapman despite not being his biological daughter. Uncle Leo had always shown her great affection, supporting her through thick and thin.
"Luna, come here, I'm your father," Atlas beckoned her with a wave.
"Uncle Leo... why is it you?" Luna hesitated, then approached him.
Atlas furrowed his brow and Vera hurried to clarify, "Your Uncle has been in love with me for over twenty years. Back then, I was young and naive, completely smitten with Leo Chapman. To marry him, I even... Later, I claimed you were Leo's child, and that's why he married me. Your uncle has always taken good care of us. Without him, the entire Chapman Group would probably belong to Cassie now."
"It's time to stop calling him uncle. You should call him dad now," Atlas said, taking Luna's hand. "Luna, I'll give you the best of everything."
"Dad, thank you," Luna said, tears welling up in her eyes as she embraced him.
Atlas had always treated her far better than Leo Chapman. "Dad, I despise Cassie. I want her to pay."
"No one bullies my daughter without facing the consequences. But for now, our priority is to secure the marriage with the Chamberlains," Atlas said. "Once our families unite, the Hernandezs will soon find themselves without allies."
