Chapter 306
"Joseph’s handsome face was expressionless, a sign of anger that those familiar with him recognized all too well.
The youngsters didn't dare make a sound, and the elders were reluctant to speak further. Vera, having been rebuffed, was flushed with embarrassment. ""I didn't mean that.""
""Alright, enough,"" Celeste gave her a meaningful glance. ""We were too hasty. Just get to know each other's personalities and interests. Why not have a few meals together, arrange a meeting, or watch a movie? We have a private theater at home, after all. We can watch something after dinner.""
""Right, sounds like a plan."" Mildred shifted the topic to the fresh ingredients Joseph had airfreighted from abroad.
Joseph finished his orange and left the scene without joining the women's conversation.
Not long after he left, two young men came in. One was Richard, whom Cassie had met before. The other, dressed in a deep blue suit with jet-black hair falling over his forehead, had a ruggedly charming aura.
Mildred waved at him. ""Liam, why are you so late?""
""I got held up at the office, Grandma. Here's a gift for you."" Liam presented a beautiful jade piece.
Cassie immediately realized that this was Joseph's half-brother from his mother's side.
Her gaze swept the room and settled on Richard, whose eyes popped in surprise but quickly regained his composure. With a light cough, he said, ""Grandma, I'm going to check on the fish Big Brother sent.""

At six-thirty, the family dinner began.
More than twenty people sat at the long table.
They were gracefully served the French delicacies.
Cassie, a culinary enthusiast interested in ingredients, was excited about the food tonight.
However, either intentionally or not, when it was her turn, the most delicious dish was gone.
The chef apologized with a sheepish grin, ""Sorry, we don’t have more. Let me serve you another dish. I hope that's alright with you, Miss Brooks.""
Juliette let out a snort of laughter. ""What's there to fuss about? She probably hasn't ever had a French dish worth millions; just serve her anything.""
Cassie's face remained calm and composed. She had anticipated these things, so there was no point in getting upset.
But Leo's face turned sour in an instant. ""Juliette, that's my daughter you're talking about. Mind your manners.""
Considering Leo's formidable status, Walter immediately shot Juliette an irritated look. ""If you can't say anything nice, better say nothing at all.""
""Cassie, take my portion."" Leo began to slide his plate across the table.
Joseph, who had been idly playing on his phone the whole time, suddenly looked up. ""I've been having some trouble with my stomach lately. I can't handle such dishes. Take mine over there and keep yours, Mr. Chapman.""
Everyone paused, turning their attention to Luna.
Celeste chuckled, ""Luna, Joseph dotes on you. He wouldn't even eat his share to make his future father-in-law happy.""
Luna felt a rush of joy. She had been worried before, but now she felt reassured that Joseph still cared about her.
Joseph ignored their conversation entirely, turning to address the chef with a faint smile, ""You can't even divvy up the portions right. I think it's time for you to leave.""
The chef became frantic. ""Joseph, I...""
