Chapter 39 Take it as a lesson

An hour later, Joseph found a nurse for her. Seeing that Cassie was already asleep and knowing he had a court case to prepare for the next morning, he gave the nurse some instructions and left.

In the middle of the night, Cassie woke up. The nurse on the sofa explained, "I'm the nurse Mr. Hernandez hired to take care of you."

"Okay," Cassie said, momentarily stunned.

Although she had asked him to find a nurse, she still felt a bit disappointed that he actually did.

They were in a contract marriage, and he didn't like her, so he couldn't stay with her.

The fact that he brought her to the hospital and fed her yesterday was already quite good.

The nurse, being experienced, saw her silence and smiled. "Mr. Hernandez cares about you a lot. He stayed until eleven last night and instructed me not to fall asleep because you might need to get up. He also arranged for the hospital's head chef to prepare your meals, ensuring they are nutritious and clean."

Cassie blinked, thinking the Joseph described by the nurse didn't seem at all like the one she knew.

The nurse continued, "I've seen all kinds of family members in the hospital. Mr. Hernandez is cold on the outside but warm on the inside."

Cassie was lost in thought, recalling how he appeared to save her last night. He was quite gentle.

In the morning, after finishing her check-up, Cassie returned to the room to find two more people there: Joseph and Matthew.

Matthew, who looked like he had been through something rough, had a bruised and swollen face and knelt on the ground as soon as he saw Cassie. "I'm sorry, Ms. Brooks. I was blinded by money. Olivia offered me half a million dollars to steal your design drafts. Please forgive me. I'm begging you."

He was trembling on the ground, but Cassie was shaking with anger. "Why should I forgive you? Do you know what you've destroyed? It's my reputation and dignity as a designer. People like you don't deserve to be designers."

"You're right, I don't deserve it," Matthew said, not lifting his head, "So I can never design again."

Cassie was stunned and then noticed that his hands were hanging down, with bandages on his wrists.

Joseph slowly stood up, his cold eyebrows slightly raised. "Since he doesn't want to design properly and wants to be a thief, then he shouldn't design for the rest of his life."

Matthew shivered on the ground.

Cassie didn't know what Matthew had gone through last night, but he was usually arrogant and conceited. For him to end up like this, it must have been Joseph's doing.

She didn't feel any sympathy for Matthew; after all, he hadn't considered her fate when he did those things. "Since that's the case, this is your deserved retribution. I hope you become a better person in the future."

"Okay, I will never dare again. I'll leave Silverwood and never appear in your sight again," Matthew said, trembling.

"Get lost," Joseph said coldly.

After Matthew left, Joseph tossed a new phone into Cassie's hands.

She picked it up and saw that it contained a recording of what Matthew had just said.

"This phone is for you. You can handle the recording yourself," Joseph said, glancing at her. "Don't take your anger out on me so easily in the future. You lost the bid because you didn't take good care of your designs. Let this be a lesson. In the workplace, you have to be wary of everyone."

Cassie looked at him, bewildered and conflicted.

She had always thought that Joseph and Felix had arranged for Olivia to win the bid yesterday, but now she was confused as to why he was helping her like this.

Could it be that Olivia was lying to her?
