Chapter 1742 Do you really think I'm that easy to bully?
"Where's she heading for further studies?" Bernice asked, her curiosity piqued.
There was a brief pause on the other end before Fiona answered, "Evergreen University, Film Department."
Bernice let out a sigh, "That's a top-notch place. They've churned out a ton of Best Actor and Best Actress winners. The professors there are big shots in the industry. Looks like the company won't stop until they make her a Best Actress."
Fiona felt a bit helpless.
As Bernice's agent, she knew the inside scoop. If you didn't get into Evergreen University's Film Department through exams, it was nearly impossible for an average person to get in for further studies. The only reason they agreed this time was because the Nelson Group was willing to fund a new library for Evergreen University.
Even Bernice didn't have such pull.
Fiona couldn't figure out what was so special about Sarah. First, she plagiarized, then she got exposed for having character issues and a bad rep. She even caused the company big losses due to a contract termination. And now, Lucas wants to push Sarah again.
Fiona felt it was unfair to Bernice, but she didn't dare say it, fearing it would upset her.
Bernice said, "Fiona, I'm not letting Sarah have that period drama. I've read the script; it's fantastic. I need a serious drama to make my mark in the TV industry."
Fiona was troubled, "Bernice, the company wants you to give it to Sarah. They'll compensate you with other resources."
"I don't need it. I want that show. Don't worry, I'll talk to Lucas myself."
Bernice hung up the phone.
A faint smile played on her lips.
She wasn't that interested in the TV show, but the situation with Sarah was a perfect chance to stir things up for Lucas.
She'd been waiting for an opportunity.
But first, she needed to go to the company.
The next day, Bernice had her assistant reschedule her work and headed to the company.
It was Monday, and the place was buzzing.
As Bernice took the elevator up, she passed by the break room where some staff were chatting animatedly.
"Is Sarah starting her own studio?"
"Yeah, her agent's already on the hunt for staff."
"Bernice is way more popular than her. Bernice hasn't even started her own studio yet. Sarah's treatment is something else, almost like she's marrying Mr. Nelson."
"Good thing I didn't mess with Sarah when she was down. Did you see how cocky she was when she came to the company yesterday?"
"This time, Mr. Nelson donated a library to Evergreen University so Sarah could go for further studies and got her the best resources. It's enough to make anyone jealous. Bernice, on the other hand..."
"You heard about it too?"
"Of course, I did. Mr. Nelson visited Bernice on set the day before yesterday. In the break room, Bernice worked so hard for benefits that Sarah can't even compare to. If I were Bernice, I'd be pissed."
Bernice stood quietly outside, listening.
Until an employee's voice came from behind, "Bernice, what brings you here today?"
The staff in the break room were startled, their faces turning pale, not daring to move.
No one expected Bernice to suddenly show up at the company. Bernice was currently the company's top earner, dominating the entertainment industry in terms of both buzz and exposure. However, she rarely came to the company unless there was a meeting.Oh man, how much did she hear just now?
Are they gonna get fired?
"I'm here to see Mr. Jenkins," Bernice said, taking off her sunglasses. "Where's Mr. Jenkins?"
"In his office."
"Thanks." Bernice turned and walked away.
The staff in the break room came out, trembling, asking their colleagues outside, "How long was Bernice standing there?"
"I don't know. I saw her standing there when I came over," a colleague replied.
The staff shivered in fear.
In the CEO's office.
When Bernice entered, Sarah's agent, Tessa Hawthorne, was also there. Tessa smiled, "Thank Mr. Nelson for me. It's all thanks to him."
Max quickly glared at Tessa, "You should leave. I'm busy."
Tessa smiled and turned, warmly greeting Bernice, "Bernice, what brings you here today? Just wanted to let you know, the period drama the company recommended to Fiona has been signed to Sarah. Thanks for giving her such a great opportunity. I'll treat you to dinner next time."
"You're welcome."
Bernice nodded indifferently.
"Our Bernice is so generous. After all, you don't lack resources now, unlike our Sarah."
"Tessa, if you're so free, why not stay for dinner?" Max teased.
"I haven't seen Bernice in a while. Alright, I'm leaving." Tessa smiled and waved as she left.
Max stood up and asked Bernice, "Coffee or tea?"
"Coffee, it suits my mood right now, doesn't it?" Bernice sneered.
Max was at a loss for words, "Bernice, don't worry. I'll find you better resources. Have you heard of 'Secret War,' the undercover drama? I've already contacted the director, Emory Buckner. He agreed to let you join the cast as the female lead."
Bernice smiled, "I've heard about that drama from other actresses. It's a good show, but it's a male-oriented drama. The female lead's character isn't outstanding; any actress could play that role."
"Don't say that. Getting a role in such a good show is a dream for many."
Bernice didn't want to beat around the bush, "If you think it's so good, why don't you let Sarah take it?"
Max was silent.
As the CEO, he felt utterly powerless.
But this wasn't his decision to make; it was Lucas's order.
He wanted to fight Lucas. Why did he have to sleep with Bernice? Now things were messed up. Lucas didn't care, but he was in an awkward position.
Seeing him silent, Bernice changed the topic, "Fine, let's not talk about that drama. If Sarah is starting a studio, then I want to start one too. I'm more popular than she is. Why can't I have my studio?"
"Bernice, your contracts are different," Max said.
Bernice understood, "I signed a contract that squeezes me dry, while she has the best contract with the company, right? She has more flexibility, more freedom, and a lower commission rate."
Max remained silent.
"Do you think I'm easy to bully?" Bernice's delicate face was very cold.
Max raised his hands in surrender. "Can you talk to Lucas? If you can convince him, I'll give you my position. Bernice, I'm not the majority shareholder of this company."
"I understand."
Bernice nodded, got up, and left.
Max, troubled, dialed Lucas's number.
"Make it quick. I have a surgery to perform."
Max angrily said, "Bernice just came to see me. The drama we promised her is now given to Sarah. Bernice is very unhappy and is demanding to start her studio."
