Chapter 647
She had just finished speaking when she saw a shadow fall over. Joseph's face turned dark as he glared at her, with flames burning in his eyes. "Who are you calling, Billy?" She kept calling him baby and blowing kisses. The thought of her being so affectionate with another man made him want to strangle her.
Cassie was startled. She had just been chatting with Sophia and Oliver, and she couldn't let Joseph find out about their presence.
"None of your business," she retorted. Cassie quickly took off her earphones, trying to end the call.
However, her anxious demeanor only made Joseph more suspicious. He snatched her phone and put it on speaker, "Billy?"
"Joseph..." Cassie's heart raced to her throat, hoping Sophia and Oliver on the other end would be smart.
"Sir, who is Billy?" A childish voice came through the earphones.
Joseph was taken aback. He hadn't expected to hear a little girl's voice, especially one so cute. But why was Cassie so intimate with a child?
"Sorry, I got the wrong person. Who are you, and what's your relationship with Cassie?" Joseph tried his best to speak softly, aiming not to spook the little girl.
"Sir, why are you interrogating me like a suspect?" Sophia said, a bit annoyed.
Joseph was at a loss. He had no idea how to communicate with a child.
"Joseph, give me back," Cassie reached out to grab it, but Joseph raised it high. "Sir, why are you trying to take Auntie Cassie's phone?" Sophia suddenly got angry.
"Auntie?" Joseph was surprised, feeling relieved that Cassie didn't have a child with another man.
"Exactly, do you think she's my mom? Although I wish Auntie Cassie were my mom." Sophia burst into tears.
Cassie sighed softly. Sophia was quick-witted and always ready to improvise.
Joseph usually disliked children crying, but for some reason, the little girl on the phone softened his heart. "You don't have a mom?"
"No, my mom is very mean to me. She always scolds me and doesn't give me chocolate. Auntie Cassie is different. She always buys me lots of chocolate. I really like her, but since she went back to her country, no one has bought me chocolate."
Joseph fell silent. Were all kids like this nowadays? He began to doubt.
Cassie also fell silent. Was Sophia hinting that she should send chocolate over? The little girl was indeed very clever.
"Eating too much chocolate isn't good for your teeth," Joseph said gently.
"My teeth are very good, Sir. What's your relationship with Auntie Cassie? Are you pursuing her?" Sophia asked gossipingly.
Once again, Joseph didn't know how to respond.
"Why aren't you answering my question?" Sophia's childish voice persisted, "Or do you not want to pursue Auntie Cassie, just want to keep her?"
"Who taught you these words? You're too young. You don't understand the adult world," Joseph's temple twitched. He quickly hung up. It was the first time he felt so exhausted from talking to a child.
Cassie snatched the phone back. Joseph asked, "Whose child is this? I don't know how the parents are teaching her. She's learning all sorts of nonsense."
"Yeah, her parents really don't teach her well," Cassie sneered, "especially her dad; he has another woman outside and is often not at home."
"Her father is really irresponsible," Joseph subtly felt sorry for Sophia.
"Yeah, just like you," Cassie said, "When I was abroad, I couldn't help but think of our two aborted children when I saw the neighbor's kids."
