Chapter 313
"Liam's eyes narrowed as he observed the corporate flattery he regularly faced transform into subservient tail-wagging before Joseph.
With a wicked half-smile, he greeted, ""Big brother.""
Joseph spared him a glance. ""I was looking for you. You missed this morning's meeting.""
""Big brother, it wasn't intentional,"" Liam explained, his face a picture of helplessness. ""On my way to the office, I happened upon a car crash. I had to take the victim to the hospital.""
""You should have notified the company whether you could make it or not,"" Joseph said, striding toward the private room.
""Sure, but brother, maybe you should consider visiting the victim. It's the young lady from the Chapman Family, not Luna, but the one they just welcomed back.""
Joseph halted in his tracks as Liam finished speaking.
He turned, looking at Liam with concern in his eyes. ""Cassie?""
""Yes,"" Liam said with a look of sympathy.
Joseph slipped a hand into his pocket, his lips tightening slightly. ""Is she badly hurt?""
""I'm not entirely sure about the details; I hurried off to the office after dropping her at the hospital,"" Joseph frowned. ""But I heard something about brake failure. It was quite a close call. When I got there to rescue her, she was already out cold.""
Behind him, Director Gregory hissed in shock. ""Brake failure on Snowford Evergreen? That's essentially a deathtrap.""
Joseph kicked the conference room door open. ""Let's go in.""
Once seated inside, he glanced at Walter, who immediately caught on and stepped out to gather information.
Joseph occupied the head of the table, surrounded by executives chattering away, but he couldn't hear a word. Over the years, he'd grown as cold as ice.
But at this very moment, his mind was consumed by thoughts of Cassie—her playful, cunning, and shy expressions. Just the other day, she had stood before him, her face flushed with shyness as he kissed her passionately.
And now, she was in an accident, her fate uncertain.
His heart clenched tightly.
He suddenly stood up. ""I just remembered I have something urgent to attend to; I can't stay for the meal. Please, enjoy without me.""
With that, he left a group of bewildered executives behind and quickly departed.
Next door, the assistant approached Liam and whispered, ""Joseph has left the company.""
Liam let out a soft, mocking laugh.
Everyone thought that after Megan Ray's death, Joseph had turned into a block of ice, wrapping himself in a shell with no weaknesses. Yet now, it seemed he had found a new one.

Joseph drove at breakneck speed to the hospital.
Approaching the VIP ward, he was about to enter when he suddenly spotted David sitting by the bedside, holding Cassie's hand.
He halted and hid behind a wall, overhearing David's gentle question. ""Are you still dizzy?""
""Yeah, a little and nauseous.""
""The doctors say that's normal for a concussion. You gave me such a scare. I was planning to take care of things on Madison's end before coming, but I can't wait any longer. I'm not going back; I need to be here to ensure your safety,"" David said, pressing her hand to his face.
Cassie lowered her head awkwardly. ""You haven't fully recovered yourself.""
""I'm much better now, Cassie. I really can't bear the thought of losing you,"" David said with deep affection. ""Let's get married this year. I'll be by your side from now on.""
