Chapter 785
Joseph noticed Cassie's shocked expression and, with a slight smirk, casually told a lie, not expecting her to believe it.
"Anyways, what I said is true. I suggest you steer clear of Tyler," Joseph added.
Cassie looked at Joseph mockingly, took out her phone, and prepared to call Tyler.
Joseph gently reminded, "Tyler has left."
"Joseph, what have you done again?" Cassie glared at him.
"I told Tyler that going after you was disrespectful to me, and he left immediately," Joseph said with contempt.
"Tyler is too much of a coward."
If Cassie and Tyler hadn't known each other, Cassie would have believed Joseph's lie. Joseph was skilled at deception.
Joseph noticed Cassie's silent gaze and lack of emotion. He tightened his fist and cleared his throat. "I came to thank you for taking me to the hospital yesterday. How about I treat you to dinner tonight?"
"Thank you, no need. Yesterday, I kindly took you to the hospital, but your good friend scolded me, saying I was too persistent with you, trying to take advantage. I reminded him to make sure you remember to repay my medical expenses, and he said I was trying to find an excuse to repair our relationship," Cassie joked maliciously.
Then she crossed her arms coldly and sarcastically, "If I agree to have dinner with you, I will definitely be scolded harshly by him later."
"Are you talking about Michael?"
Joseph was very angry. If it weren't for their years of friendship, he really wanted to punch Michael a few times. "Don't listen to Michael's nonsense."
"Joseph, I'm confused about your intentions," Cassie said helplessly. "Because of you, I'm always getting scolded. Do you love Megan? Why do you keep coming to me? Remember what you said at the wedding a few days ago, about marrying Megan soon? Or did Megan do something to upset you, and now you're troubled, so you're turning to me for comfort? I'm not a stand-in for your emotions."
Joseph's handsome face was full of embarrassment. Every word from Cassie felt like a slap on Joseph's face. Joseph also felt ashamed as a man. He had solemnly promised to marry Megan on the wedding day.
"Joseph, don't always give people hope and then make them despair," Cassie said seriously.
Then she turned and walked away.
Joseph was stunned, watching Cassie about to leave. He instinctively grabbed Cassie's hand, "Yesterday, at McDonald's, some images flashed through my mind from the past... maybe I don't dislike you as much as I thought."
Cassie froze, realizing she had a similar guess yesterday, but she didn't expect Joseph to remember something.
"I won't marry Megan," Joseph said as Cassie didn't leave, continuing, "I've moved out of Seaside Haven now. I'm not using you as a substitute."
"You're using me as a rebound then. You called off your wedding with Megan and then came to me right away," Cassie snapped, pushing Joseph's hand away. "Maybe you've realized that the image of Megan in your mind isn't as perfect as you thought. You're regretting it, and because there's no one else around, you've returned to me out of boredom."
Cassie grew angrier as she spoke, her eyes flashing with angry flames and glistening tears.
Joseph felt a pang in his heart.
"It's not like that," Joseph struggled to speak.
"Joseph, I don't want to be hurt by you anymore." Cassie turned and walked away.
