Chapter 1683 Unexpected Change
The wedding between the Miller family and the Penrose family was quickly put on the agenda.
Thalia even found someone to pick an engagement date. "I asked, the fifteenth of next month is a particularly good day, let's get engaged then."
Elliott instinctively frowned, "Ms. Penrose's leg won't be healed by then, right?"
"The doctor said it would take at least a hundred days to walk properly. The dates in the second half of the year are only good towards the end, which is a bit long." Thalia paused and added, "You are getting married, you can just call her Isadora."
"Yes, Elliott."
Isadora, lying in the hospital bed, mustered the courage to look at him. "You can call me Isadora from now on."
Elliott responded softly, lowering his eyes.
"Let's set it for the fifteenth of next month," Rose agreed. She understood the Penrose family's concerns and was also afraid that Elliott might back out. It had been hard enough to get him to agree to the marriage. "Do you have any requirements for the wedding house?"
"Let's talk outside and let the kids have a chat. Oh, Elliott, Isadora needs to go for a check-up later, you take her."
Thalia winked at Rose.
Rose immediately understood and the two of them left arm in arm.
The room suddenly became quiet, and Isadora felt inexplicably nervous. She had always been respectful to Elliott, and now that they were suddenly in a relationship, she felt a bit excited and worried. "Elliott, I'm sorry. I didn't save you that day to make you feel responsible. In that situation, I just instinctively didn't want anything to happen to you."
She looked at him hesitantly, a hint of shyness in her eyes.
"Regardless, I have to thank you," Elliott said calmly. "But I'm curious, before you applied to the Miller Group, had we met before?"
"Yes," Isadora nodded. "Last year, when I had just returned to the country, I attended a charity banquet with my parents. My wine glass accidentally bumped into you and stained your suit. I apologized, and you didn't blame me. Later, when I borrowed a suit to find you, you had already left."
Hearing her say this, Elliott recalled that it was probably last autumn. The Miller Group hadn't moved to Whisperlyn City yet; they only had a small office there. He had received the charity event invitation because of his connection to Laura's brother. However, the high society in Whisperlyn City looked down on him and didn't take him seriously.
Even when he attended the banquet, people would only glance at him from a distance and wouldn't approach him.
After his suit got stained, he felt it was pointless and left early without even looking closely at the woman. He hadn't expected this.
Moreover, when Isadora applied to the Miller Group, the company was really small.
Elliott, being a smart person, quickly understood the situation.
It wasn't surprising that Isadora had fallen for him at first sight. In the Silverwood circle, many women had pursued him.
But he had been betrayed and hurt by a woman before, so he didn't believe in true love anymore.
"You should know that I've always seen you as just an ordinary subordinate," Elliott said honestly. "But as your family said, you saved me, and my family has been urging me to get married, so I agreed. If you expect me to be gentle, kind, or romantic, I'm sorry, I probably can't give you that."
"It's okay, we can get to know each other better after marriage," Isadora smiled slightly. "I've worked by your side for so long. Although you're a bit cold, you're handsome, you don't smoke, and you only drink for social occasions. You don't have any bad habits and you're not a womanizer. You have many good qualities."
She believed that their relationship would change naturally once they became a couple, made love, and had children.
She would slowly win him over with time.
Elliott was stunned, pursed his lips, and said nothing more.
"Family of the patient, take the patient to the 7th floor for an X-ray."
Suddenly, a nurse came in with a form and handed it to Elliott. "Take her in a wheelchair."
"Okay."
Elliott hesitated for a few seconds, then gently picked up Isadora and placed her in the wheelchair.
Isadora, close to his chest, blushed. When she looked up, she saw Elliott's indifferent face, not even sparing her a glance.
She felt disappointed but quickly encouraged herself.
Take it slow, there's a lifetime ahead.
Half an hour later, Elliott brought Isadora back.
Rose and Thalia had almost finished their conversation.
Afterward, Elliott had some business to attend to and left with Rose. On the way, Rose complained, "You should have spent more time with Isadora."
"I have work to do."
"Work, work, that's all you care about," Rose said disappointedly. "Isadora is so gentle and lovely. Are you made of ice?"
"I'm your son. You should know if I'm made of ice," Elliott retorted calmly.
Rose glared at him. "The Penrose family is quite reasonable. As for the new house, they said our villa was just renovated, so Isadora can live with us, or you can live separately. They don't mind, they only have one request: treat Isadora well and make the wedding grand so she won't feel wronged."
Elliott nodded.
He had seen many friends' weddings and the issues that arose with houses and other matters.
In this regard, the Penrose family was indeed very reasonable.
"This is the benefit of marrying someone of equal status," Rose said with a smile. "If you marry someone from a poor family, they might demand a huge dowry. It's not that we can't afford it, but it would feel greedy. If you marry someone too wealthy, even if we give them millions of dollars, they might not care. You know our situation; we just bought a house, and the Miller Group just expanded a large industrial park. We need funds to keep things running, and we can't afford too much right now."
Elliott's eyes flickered for a few seconds before he nodded.
He had thought about all this.
That's why he agreed to this marriage.
His parents wouldn't let him delay it any longer anyway.
After dropping Rose off, he was about to head to the office when he suddenly received a call from his secretary. "Mr. Miller, bad news. Austin's Cascade Industries Group just called and said they want to terminate the contract."
"We had agreed on a five-year contract. Why are they suddenly terminating it?" Elliott's voice turned cold.
"Not sure. They said our products didn't meet their standards and they won't approve them. They want to terminate the contract."
