Chapter 1285: I'm Not Happy
Nathaniel checked her out, totally blown away.
Nathaniel thought, 'Robert and Helen wanna snag Olivia's shares in the Hernandez Group? Yeah, right. Didn't they always say Cassie was their real daughter? Makes sense for the real daughter to help run the family biz, right?'
"She's trippin'. The Hernandez Group is ours. She can forget it and bounce," Helen snapped.
Nathaniel smirked, thinking, 'Some folks just don't know what shame is. The Hernandez Group is theirs? If Olivia hadn't faked being Isabella's daughter and shamelessly taken over, the company would've already been killing it under Mr. Hernandez's lead. And Robert and his wife? A few years back, they were nobodies. Crushing them would've been like squashing bugs.'
"Sorry, I ain't going anywhere. Since you two are Ms. Brooks' parents, I gotta protect you," Nathaniel said with a grin, mimicking Cassie, standing at the funeral parlor entrance.
Helen was fuming, but Robert held her back, "Alright, alright, let's get on with Olivia's funeral."
"What funeral? Isabella hasn't even shown up." Helen stomped her foot. "Let her see how her daughter died miserably and get revenge for Olivia."
"You couldn't get through. Declan's probably keeping tabs on her. Who knows when we'll reach her? We can't just leave Olivia's body like this," Robert sighed, his eyes tearing up. He couldn't go on.
Helen's eyes welled up too, but thinking of David's plan and their interests, she insisted, "Then let's freeze her body first. When Isabella sees Olivia's corpse, it'll push her over the edge. This way, Isabella and Cassie will go at each other, and we can take over the Hernandez Group."
"Take over?" Robert wasn't buying it. "We're just David's puppets. He won't let us have the Hernandez Group."
"So what? Olivia's gone, and we're the heirs. David said he'd provide the team, and we wouldn't have to lift a finger. He'd give us billions every year. It's pocket change for him, but a fortune we can't spend in a lifetime. I've never seen so much money."
Helen tried to convince him, "Besides, we got no other options. If Olivia's impersonation of Cassie gets exposed, Declan won't spare us, let alone Cassie."
Robert was finally convinced. He sighed and nodded. From the moment they agreed to deceive Isabella with David and Olivia, they were stuck.
But he had no choice. He didn't want to rot in prison; he was old, and prison life was too rough.
"Alright, I'll go talk to the funeral parlor director."
Robert nodded and was about to leave when suddenly, more than ten people barged in from outside. They wore masks and carried sticks, looking super intimidating.
Robert's legs turned to jelly.
The group shoved him to the ground and trampled over him, then started smashing and wrecking everything in the hall.
"What the hell are you doing?" Helen rushed forward to stop them as they uncovered Olivia's body and tossed it to the ground.
"Get lost." A dude shoved Helen to the ground and kicked her in the chest.
"Help, it hurts so bad." Helen cried out, tears streaming down her face. She quickly called out to Nathaniel, "Aren't you here to protect us on Cassie's orders? Help us!"
Nathaniel was totally thrown by the chaos.
Were these guys sent by Cassie?
Didn't seem like it. Cassie wouldn't pull something like this, even if she hated Olivia. She wouldn't mess with a body.
But whoever they were, he was kinda enjoying the show. Still, he had to play his part.
"Hey, who are you? This is a funeral parlor, not a place for trouble. I'm calling the cops," Nathaniel said, stepping in and pretending to be brave while covering his face.
"Get lost, mind your own business." A few big guys blocked him.
Nathaniel immediately backed off.
The group trashed the place for a couple of minutes and then swaggered out.
Olivia's body was tossed onto Helen, and the stitches had split open.
Nathaniel glanced at it and felt like puking.
But before he could react, Helen was already screaming in terror. She'd been pushed down, her tailbone busted, and she couldn't get up. She could only cry and shout, "Quick, help me move her. It's too scary."
Robert wasn't doing much better. After years in prison, his health was shot. He'd been pushed and stepped on. He was struggling to breathe, just waiting for the ambulance.
Nathaniel looked at the couple and had nothing to say.
Meanwhile...
Cassie had just pulled into the estate's parking lot when she got a call from Nathaniel.
"Ms. Brooks, someone just broke into the funeral hall, smashed everything, and messed up Olivia's body. Robert and Helen got hurt and freaked out. I called an ambulance and sent them to the hospital."
Cassie was stunned. "Who did it?"
Nathaniel coughed and lowered his voice, "Wasn't it you?"
"How could I do such a thing, even though I really want to?" Cassie said honestly. "Looks like Olivia made a lot of enemies."
"With their family's behavior, how could they not?" Nathaniel sneered, "But Robert and Helen were cursing you on the way to the hospital. They said it was you. I think the cops will question you."
"Let them curse. I didn't do it, and the cops won't find anything." Cassie said nonchalantly, then paused, "But to show my concern as a daughter, I should visit the hospital."
Nathaniel was silent.
Nathaniel thought, 'You're really getting into the role of a loving daughter.'
"Wait, pay their medical bills. I'll come over." Cassie hung up and started the car, suddenly seeing a tall figure running towards her.
She immediately felt nervous.
She rolled down the window and smiled at Joseph outside.
"Cassie, you're back." Joseph looked at her with a pout. "You liar, you were gone when I woke up. You always leave me. I'm not happy."
