Chapter 239

"Cassie meekly shook her head, the haunting memory still clinging to her. ""I won't dare again,"" she murmured, her voice threaded with a shiver of fear.

Joe's lips curled into a knowing smirk. ""You're so timid, love,"" he teased. ""When will you gather the courage to start a family with me?""

Her cheeks blossomed into a deep crimson hue. She wrapped her arms around his neck, burying her face in the warm comfort of his chest, too embarrassed to utter a response.

Joe pulled her closer, a dominant tone lacing his voice. ""Forget it, you were always going to be my girl,"" he declared, his words echoing in the silence.

A sweetness swelled within Cassie, and she basked in the blissful happiness that enveloped her.

As the pair slumbered, oblivious to the world, the scandal from the evening's charity event had spread like wildfire throughout Madison, becoming the talk of the town.

In the midst of the chaos, Robert, the patriarch of the Brooks family, received yet another call from a business associate.

""Mr. Brooks,"" the voice sneered over the line, ""you should've seen your daughter's disgraceful display.""

""Give her to me for the night, and I'll consider a partnership on a project,"" the voice proposed, his words dripping with malice.

""Shut your mouth,"" Robert barked, his body trembling with rage. ""Keep it clean, will you?""

""I'm sure I'm cleaner than your daughter. With her reputation now, who would want her?"" the voice retorted.

""That's it, don't you dare call me again,"" Robert warned, his voice a deadly whisper. With that, he smashed his phone in a fit of rage. He had lived a life of glory for decades but had never felt as humiliated as he did today. The Peace Group, which he thought was within his grasp, was slipping further away. Worst of all, he had lost his last shred of dignity.

In a fit of unbridled fury, Robert grabbed a broom and stormed upstairs, preparing to unleash his anger on Olivia.

""You've brought nothing but disgrace! It's all your fault. Ever since you returned, my company's reputation has plummeted, we've lost the Height Company deal, and now, I've become a laughingstock. You're nothing but a jinx!"" he raged.

""Please, no!"" Olivia pleaded, her voice echoing with agony as she tried to fend him off. ""Dad, I've done everything for our family! It was your idea that I should win over Mr. Hernandez.""

""I sent you to charm him with gifts, not to sleep with him!"" Robert spat, his rage escalating with each word.

""You're insane; she's our own flesh and blood!"" Helen rushed in, shoving him away. Her tears flowed freely at the sight of Olivia's battered body.

""I'd rather not have a daughter like her!"" Robert pointed at Olivia accusingly. ""I should've never brought you back. Was it not because of you that Cassie turned against me? Did you not encourage me to make the worst mistake of my life with my mother? If it weren't for her defiance, even if Cassie had joined Peace Group, she would have obeyed me, and I would have been the chairman.""

Olivia stood petrified, her face ashen and her body trembling.

Helen could no longer bear it. She hugged her daughter tightly, retorting, ""Enough! It was Cassie who drove us to this point, yet you blame Olivia? All you do is take your frustrations out on your family.""

""How dare you speak up—you're her mother, aren't you? She's completely without shame. My greatest regret is ever marrying you and having her!"" Robert spatted back.

""If that's your greatest regret, then we'll spare you further disappointment—we're leaving!"" With tears streaming down her face, Helen tightly gripped Olivia's hand and hastened away.

The villa was soon left in an eerie silence, its grandeur overshadowed by the desolation that now hung in the air."
