Chapter 1043 Teaching Marigold A Lesson
Cassie's face turned icy. "Ms. Dixon, I know you like Joseph, but you can't just slander me. Show some respect."
Marigold snapped back, "A shameless woman like you has no right to lecture me."
Laura, fuming, chimed in, "We may not have the right, but I can call Ophelia and Ralph. They'll set you straight."
Marigold sneered. "Laura, are you really going to go against me? Remember, you're just James's goddaughter, not his real daughter. What are you so proud of? Everyone knows the Jude family took you in because Michael slept with you and didn't take responsibility. They only pitied you."
Laura's face went pale.
"Shut up," came Ralph's roar from behind.
Marigold turned around, startled, to see Ophelia, Ralph, Violet, and Derek standing there.
Violet looked furious. "Ralph, what's going on? The Jude family recently held a recognition banquet to prove Laura's status in the family. She may not be my biological daughter, but everyone in the Jude family treats her as family. And yet, in your household, you look down on Laura like this."
"Mrs. Jude, I'm sorry," Ralph quickly explained, "This is a misunderstanding."
"Misunderstanding?" Derek said coldly, "Ralph, we heard it ourselves. Laura and I came here in good faith to celebrate Marigold's birthday, only to be humiliated like this. It's too much. From now on, I'm afraid the Dixon family won't dare to come here anymore."
Ralph, furious, turned to Marigold. "Apologize to Ms. Miller and Ms. Brooks right now."
Marigold felt wronged. "Dad!"
A slap landed hard on Marigold's face. Ralph, pointing at her angrily, scolded, "I've spoiled you too much, and now you're out of control."
Marigold was stunned and started crying in disbelief. "Dad, I didn't do it on purpose. Cassie and Joseph were having an affair in the bathroom, and Laura was covering for them. I was just angry."
"Ms. Dixon, do you have any evidence for these accusations?" Cassie said coldly.
"Of course, the bathroom was full of water."
Cassie laughed mockingly. Derek rubbed his nose and said, "I accidentally splashed water everywhere when I was in there earlier and used the shower to clean it up."
"You're lying. You're just covering for her," Marigold paused when she saw Ralph's glare.
"Enough. Shut up," Ralph said, wishing he could kill her but forced to apologize. "Ms. Brooks, Marigold misunderstood you. I apologize on her behalf."
Cassie said indifferently, "No need to apologize. I won't dare to come to the Dixon family anymore. I was in the hall minding my own business when a servant came and said Laura was looking for me. When I went over, the servant tried to push me. Luckily, I dodged, but then the servant falsely accused me of pushing her."
Laura looked confused. "When did I ever look for you?"
Cassie said coldly, "Exactly, you didn't. But someone said you did. When I questioned them, they denied it. I was too scared to wander around and ended up chatting with you in the room. Not long after, Ms. Dixon barged in, accusing me of having an affair with Joseph. Ms. Dixon, you have a special status and can say whatever you want. But have you considered that I'm already married? If these words get out, my reputation will be ruined."
Ralph didn't expect Cassie to be so direct, but with Violet there, he had to keep apologizing. "Ms. Brooks, I didn't realize you had suffered so much. I'll make Marigold apologize to you, and I'll fire that servant immediately. Not a word of this will get out."
"Dad," Marigold said, tears of frustration streaming down her face.
"Marigold, apologize. If you don't, you're no longer my daughter," Ralph warned harshly.
Marigold bit her lip and reluctantly said to Cassie and Laura, "I'm sorry."
"I can't hear you," Laura said, digging at her ear.
"I said I'm sorry," Marigold shouted and then ran off.
Ralph, with a stern face, asked, "Ms. Brooks, are you satisfied now?"
"I'm not dissatisfied. I think Ms. Dixon is too young. If you keep indulging her, it might cause you trouble in the future. I hope you understand," Cassie said kindly.
"Thank you," Ralph said through gritted teeth, though he wished he could tear Cassie apart.
Violet sighed. "Go comfort Marigold. After all, it's her birthday. We should be leaving; it's getting late."
"I'll see you out." Ralph forced a smile as he escorted them to the door. David arrived quickly after being notified by Ralph.
He had been playing cards with some officials when Ralph's message came, asking him to escort Cassie out. Though Ralph said it was late, David knew he was being kicked out.
He had no idea what Cassie had done to get him kicked out of the villa by Ralph.
David was furious but held it in because Violet was there.
After getting into the car, Violet motioned for Cassie to come closer.
"Mrs. Jude, thank you for tonight," Cassie said gratefully.
"You've got guts. Even Carl doesn't dare speak to Ralph like that. You might be the first," Violet said with a hint of admiration, "But you're too impulsive. After tonight, Ralph will definitely hate you."
Cassie smiled. "If I have to curry favor with a politician, I'd rather wholeheartedly support the Jude family. I know many people want to please Ralph, but I can't compromise my principles for flattery. Besides, I have enough to lead a rich life. I already have more than most people. I'm not that greedy. A million dollars or a billion dollars won't change my life."
