Chapter 1282: Young People, So Sweet
"I'll roll with you," Nathaniel jumped in. "But if Olivia's really gone, what happens to her shares? Do they go to Robert and his wife?"
Cassie's heart skipped a beat; this was a big deal.
"What's up with the Hernandez Group lately? I heard from Joseph that Olivia brought her own crew to take over and boot out a bunch of the old managers?"
"Yeah, Olivia hired a team led by Nicholas Wolfe. They took over all the key spots like general managers and department heads," Nathaniel said, looking stressed. "And I found out this Nicholas guy had close ties with David before."
Cassie had a lightbulb moment. "So Nicholas is actually David's guy."
"Yep, makes sense. Olivia's cutthroat, but she doesn't have real business chops. Her connections, besides the Wittelsbach family, probably only include David. But she might not realize David's secretly eyeing her stuff, ready to snatch it anytime. I'm worried David came back to Silverwood to meet with Robert and his wife."
"Yeah, Olivia probably thinks she and David are partners, but she's wrong. To David, she's just a pawn," Cassie sighed. "We underestimated how shameless and ruthless David is again."
David's evil and shamelessness knew no bounds.
Nathaniel gave a bitter smile. "If that's the case, then the Hernandez Group, which Mr. Hernandez built with so much effort, will end up in David's hands. David's Wit Group is already at its peak. If he secretly takes over the Hernandez Group, no one in Madison would dare challenge him."
Cassie got why Ralph would help David.
"I won't let David win," she said through gritted teeth.
Nathaniel's smile was still bitter. "What can you do? If Mr. Hernandez wasn't injured, maybe there'd be a chance, but now his mind is like a two-year-old's. You and he aren't even legally married, and legally, you and David are still married. If you step into the Hernandez Group, people might think you're teaming up with David to take over."
Cassie thought of Mabel. Mabel was still a shareholder.
Mabel was good at business and management, yet she lacked David's ruthlessness and cunning, so she might not stand a chance.
"I'll help Joseph get better as fast as I can. I've noticed Joseph isn't actually dumb, and there's a way to fix this. As long as we keep Robert out of the company and kick out Nicholas Wolfe, David's plan won't work."
Cassie was quiet. "The money Olivia used to buy the Hernandez Group was all from Isabella. Isabella has the right to take back the shares, so it won't be Robert's turn."
"But Isabella and Robert are siblings; she won't do that."
"We'll play it by ear," Cassie sighed.
She just hoped Declan could cure Isabella's illness quickly.
After Nathaniel left, Rosalind made dinner.
Mildred and Walter also came over, but the two old folks were in a bad mood seeing Joseph in his current state.
"Mom and Dad, chill. Joseph's gonna bounce back," Mabel tried to soothe the old folks. "And honestly, this might be a blessing in disguise. Joseph had a rough childhood, and now he's kinda back to being a kid. Gives us a shot to make things right, give him the happy childhood he missed."
Walter snorted. "What are you even saying? A grown man reduced to this? People will laugh at him. And does he really need you to play mommy now?"
Mabel felt the sting of embarrassment.
It was clear to everyone that since Joseph sat at the table, he had been glued to Cassie. Though he clung to her, he didn't say a word. It was like he was silently screaming, "I'm not happy. Comfort me."
Mildred's heart melted. "Joseph wasn't this adorable when he was little."
She paused and picked up a chicken leg. "Here, Joseph, have a chicken leg. You need to eat well to stay strong."
Joseph looked up, saw Mildred's kind face, and his heart softened. He quickly handed over his bowl to catch it and obediently said, "Thanks, Grandma."
"Oh, what a good boy," Mildred was pleasantly surprised. "I never thought I'd see our Joseph being so obedient. I was quite negligent as a grandmother before. From now on, I need to make up for it. Walter, you can't be as strict with Joseph as you were when he was little."
"Got it," Walter said, feeling heartbroken.
So during the meal, the whole Hernandez family tried their best to make up for lost time with Joseph.
But despite everyone's enthusiasm, Joseph wasn't very interested. He only nibbled on half of the chicken leg before pouting and running off to the toy room.
"Cassie, what's going on? Did you two have a fight?" Mabel asked, worried.
Cassie was a bit taken aback. Could he still be upset because she glared at him earlier?
Really, so petty.
Cassie sighed.
Even Sophia wasn't this petty.
Mildred frowned. "He can't skip meals. Mabel, why don't you go feed him? Didn't you just say you wanted to make up for Joseph's childhood?"
Mabel awkwardly said, "It's not that I don't want to feed him; he just won't let me."
"Useless," Walter said, glaring at her.
Mabel went silent.
"Mabel, I'll go feed him later," Cassie said with a smile to ease the tension. "Joey listens to me."
Mildred laughed. "You all say he has the mind of a two-year-old, but I don't think so. What two-year-old wouldn't rely on their mom but instead rely on their wife? I think, even though he doesn't remember, his heart still knows he likes Cassie the most."
Walter nodded in agreement.
Cassie felt a bit shy hearing this, but she was actually a little happy inside.
After quickly finishing her meal, Cassie took her bowl to the toy room.
Behind her, she heard Sophia quietly share with everyone, "Joey wanted Mommy to kiss him. Mommy kissed his forehead, but he didn't seem to like it. He was grumpy the whole time we played afterward."
Cassie almost tripped.
She was super embarrassed.
Mildred kept laughing. "I knew it. He just wants Cassie to kiss him. Young love, so sweet."
Cassie stayed silent.
With a blushed face, she went to find Joseph.
