Chapter 48 Disgrace the family

Cassie remained unmoved, her face expressionless. "Laura, one day, I will make everyone who bullied me pay."

Laura was taken aback, sensing that Cassie had changed. She suggested, "You could let Joseph help you. He really cares about you."
In the evening, Joseph and Noah came over.

Noah placed a fruit basket on the coffee table and greeted with a smile, "How are you?"

"I'm much better." Cassie sneaked a glance at Joseph beside her. He was wearing a black trench coat, the deep and cold color accentuating his chiseled features, making him look like an ice sculpture; even his eyes were filled with gloom.

Cassie obediently lowered her eyes. "I'm sorry for causing you trouble again."

"At least you know." Joseph felt an inexplicable anger at seeing her frail frame; his tone was particularly harsh. "Ever since we got married, you've been nothing but trouble. I don't want the police knocking on my door one day because you died and they need to investigate me. Do you understand?"

"I won't do it again." Cassie bit her pale lips, holding back her tears.

Joseph was irritated. He didn't want to scold her, but he tried to prevent her from doing something stupid again.

"Where's the phone I bought you? Why was it left at the Brooks Villa?" Joseph asked.

"My mom tricked me into giving it to her."

"You're such an idiot."

Cassie replied. "You're right."

Noah burst out laughing, lightening the atmosphere in the hospital room. "Alright, Joseph, stop being so hard on her. Who could have guessed Robert and Helen would be so vicious?"

Cassie's body trembled.

Joseph frowned. "If you want to stay alive, stay away from them."

Noah nodded. "From now on, just focus on cooking for Joseph. You see how bad his temper gets when he can't eat your food."

"Noah." Joseph's cold gaze swept over.

Noah quickly shut up. Cassie smiled. "I'll get better soon and cook for you."

"Just shut up and focus on getting well first." Joseph's voice was as harsh as ever, but Cassie felt warmth in it.

She thought to herself, 'Joseph, thank you, really.'

At the Lewis Group.

Arthur saw the news online two days later, which included a publicly released doctor's diagnosis.

He was shocked and stunned.

He immediately drove to the Brooks Villa.

As soon as he entered, he suppressed his anger and questioned, "Robert, Helen, did you really lock Cassie in the Brooks Manor, depriving her of water and feeding her spoiled food?"

"What nonsense. Arthur, are we that kind of people?" Robert was both angry and aggrieved. "Yes, I did have her locked in the Brooks Manor, but she was treated with good food and drink every day. After all, she's my daughter; how could I be so cruel?"

Olivia said painfully, "Everything online is fake. I don't understand why Cassie would smear us like this after her friends took her out of the Brooks Manor. Mom and Dad have been worried sick about her. We locked her up because we didn't want her hanging out with bad influences and ruining her reputation with those live streams."

Arthur was taken aback, recalling the rumors he had heard recently. His handsome face showed a complex expression, and he could understand why the Brooks family did what they did.

"Sorry, I misunderstood you," Arthur said.

Helen clutched her chest in pain. "We don't care about the online insults, and we indeed failed as parents. However, Height Architectural Decoration Company has worked hard to build its reputation, and now it's ruined. The stock has been plummeting for two days, losing millions of dollars in market value. What's worse is that people online are boycotting our company. If this continues, things will get really bad."
