Laura, on the other hand, was stunned. "No way, wasn't Michael always running the new energy project?"
"Relax, we've got it under control, and EchoReach's rights have been pulled too." Derek walked over to the bed, smiling warmly. "Michael can't mess with you anymore. He doesn't have the power to take the kid from you. Now, besides a paralyzed Megan, all he's got is the Ocean Blue Group and a few small investment firms. He can't hurt you anymore. Plus, everyone knows the Jude Group ditched him, so he's got no shot in the business world, especially since he's on bad terms with Joseph and isn't close to Lucas."
Laura was floored.
What the heck had happened?
In just a few days, Michael had hit rock bottom.
Laura couldn't wrap her head around it.
But even she, as naive as she was, knew Derek had a hand in all this.
Just the day before, Derek had told Laura to trust him.
Derek had kept every promise he made to Laura.
He was always so calm, yet he had everything under control.
Derek was like a mystery, so powerful in her eyes.
And this powerful guy was her relative.
It felt pretty awesome.
Being protected felt amazing.
"Derek, thank you." Laura's eyes welled up. "Thanks for helping me keep Maeve."
And for keeping her out of jail.
"You don't need to thank me; this is what the Jude Family owes you." Derek wanted to ruffle her hair but held back with the Miller Family around. "Besides, Michael was in the wrong from the start."
Luke said angrily, "Michael brought this on himself. Alright, since the Jude Family has sorted it out, I won't make a fuss. But this whole thing made us realize that a big family like the Judes is out of our league. We're just not on the same level."
After a pause, Luke turned to Laura and said, "When you're out of the hospital, come back to Silverwood with us. Whisperlyn City isn't good for you."
"Yeah," Rose nodded. "I'd feel better if you stayed with us. I won't let you stay in Whisperlyn City alone anymore. Look at the past two years you've spent here; I've been so worried. Honestly, I'd rather not have you as the President's goddaughter. Just being our daughter is enough."
Laura sniffled, touched. "Mom, Dad, if I go back to Silverwood with you, what about my company? It's just starting to do well. I can't let the shareholders lose money, and there are so many employees. I can't go back."
"Alright, how much do you owe those shareholders? I'll pay them off," Luke said angrily. "After you come back to Silverwood, I'll set up a lab for you. You can do your research there. Why wear yourself out?"
"Exactly, Laura, the Miller Family is doing better and better now. We're not short on money anymore," Rose said earnestly. "Besides, we're getting on in years, and our health isn't what it used to be."
Laura felt torn and emotional at Luke and Rose's words.
Over the years, she hadn't spent much time with them, and that made her feel really guilty.
Sensing the tension, Derek quickly jumped in, "Luke, Rose, if Laura goes back to Silverwood, Maeve will definitely go too. James and the others won't be used to not seeing her. Plus, you're expanding your business nationwide, but Silverwood is a small city. Keeping the Miller Group there will limit its growth. I heard Elliott's been looking at land in the central city, planning to move the Miller Group's headquarters and factories."
Elliott raised an eyebrow. "Who told you that?"
Derek grinned. "Laura mentioned it."
Laura stayed quiet.
When had she ever said that?
But Derek had helped her so much, she just let him lie without calling him out.
Elliott didn't say anything. He hadn't told Laura, but maybe Luke and Rose had.
Seeing this, Derek smiled. "What do you think of the land in the Emerald Valley District of Whisperlyn City, Elliott?"
Elliott looked a bit surprised and frowned. "The land there is great, but..."
But besides being super expensive, it wasn't something you could just buy with money.
Elliott had never considered it because he never thought of asking the Jude Family for help.
"That's perfect. With just a word from me, I can get that land approved for the Miller Group."
Derek smiled. "That area is already under construction for an airport and will become the most developed logistics hub. If the Miller Group can build its headquarters and factories there, it will make nationwide and even global logistics easier. In the competitive industry, this location alone will give you a big edge over competitors. Not to mention, the Miller Group is planning to expand overseas."
Derek didn't say more but left it at that.
He knew that as businessmen, Elliott and Luke were smart and would definitely be interested.
Sure enough, Derek saw excitement flash in Elliott and Luke's eyes, but Elliott quickly calmed down and said, "I admit what you said is very tempting, but I don't want Laura to have too many ties with the Jude Family."
Derek shook his head with a smile. "Because of Maeve, some ties are unavoidable. Besides, even if Laura goes back to Silverwood, she'll always be known as the President's goddaughter."
Elliott thought for a moment and asked, "Derek, why are you helping the Miller Family like this?"
"In your eyes, it seems like I'm helping you, but to me, it's just a small matter."
Derek said modestly, "Of course, I'm doing this for Maeve. After all, if your family does well, Maeve will be more respected in the future. Even if her parents divorce, no one will look down on her."
"Besides, my parents are very fond of Laura. Recently, they've been telling me that Laura is too pitiful. If there's a chance, we must help Laura and the Miller Family. The better the Miller Family does, the more Michael will regret it."
Derek's words were indeed compelling.
Not only Luke but even Rose was moved.
