Chapter 460

As Joseph's condition deteriorated, Rosalind's desire to leave escalated. However, he had her confined in the cellar, and the situation quickly spiraled into chaos. He had harmed her. An ambulance had to be summoned in the dead of night to transport Rosalind to the hospital. The woman who relayed this tale was at her wit's end, her face still bearing the imprint of a slap.

Michael was seething. "Cassie's lost her mind. Just wait until I confront her..."

"Easy," Lucas interjected, grabbing him in an attempt to keep him under control. "Look at what she's done to Joseph. She's fully aware of the severity of his condition, yet she continues to provoke him. I'm convinced she's trying to drive him mad to inherit his wealth."

Joyce Ray, her voice barely above a whisper, added, "I managed to unlock the cellar door this morning to let her escape. It didn't feel right to keep her locked up like that. What if Joseph had another episode and hurt someone?"

Lucas shot her an approving look. "You did the right thing. Imprisoning someone is never acceptable."

"But I'm terrified of Joseph's reaction when he discovers what happened..." Joyce Ray admitted, her voice trembling.

"We'll claim responsibility for her release," Lucas decided.

"Thank you both," Joyce Ray expressed her gratitude.

Shortly thereafter, Joseph regained consciousness, his hand clutching his throbbing head.

"Joseph, are you feeling any better?" Michael inquired, concern etched on his face.

Joseph glanced up at them, his brow furrowing in confusion. "Why are you all here? Where's Cassie—she didn't come home last night?"

A tense silence filled the room. Bewildered, everyone exchanged uneasy glances between Michael and Lucas.

Finally, Lucas broke the silence. "Joseph, you don't remember what happened last night?"

"How could I? Wasn't I just sleeping?" Joseph replied, clearly perplexed. "I had a fight with Cassie the night before. I waited up for her last night, frustrated as hell, then somehow just crashed when I got back to bed."

Michael was taken aback.

Lucas patted him on the shoulder. "I'll be straight with you, man. You and Cassie had another blowout last night. She's left home, and you even pushed Rosalind. She ended up in the hospital, thank goodness Joyce Ray was there."

Joseph's expression darkened instantly. "That's impossible. How come I can't remember a thing?"

"Your condition's deteriorating, man," Lucas said, his frown deepening. "Now we've got memory lapses and hallucinations to worry about. It's serious."

Joseph clutched the blanket, his frustration evident. "That can't be right; I thought I was improving."

Michael interjected irritably, "It’s all because Cassie set you off again. Just leave it for now, man. Keep your distance, and let Joyce Ray take care of you. It's for the best."

"I agree with Michael. Keep your distance, at least for now. You wouldn't want to hurt her, right?" Lucas added. "I've heard about this incredible psychologist, Nyasia, abroad. They say there's no patient she can't heal. She's elusive, but we need to get in touch with her, whatever it takes."

"I don’t care about the cost, we need to find her," Joseph agreed. He had never loathed himself more than at that moment.

Even though she had only been gone for a night, he yearned to see her.

But he knew he had to restrain himself; he couldn't afford to hurt her any further.

After spending a night at a hotel, Cassie enlisted Laura Miller's help in house hunting. She was determined to purchase a house—a genuine home of her own in New York City.

"You're not planning on going back, are you? I hope you don't end up back there once Joseph comes to his senses," Laura Miller remarked, her tone laced with sarcasm.

"How could I, after everything that's happened?" Cassie retorted, a pang of pain shooting through her heart at the memory. "Now, whenever I think of Joseph, I feel repulsed. It's like a beautiful romance turned into a nightmare."

"That's the harsh reality," Laura responded, her voice filled with contempt. "If he can't get over Megan Ray, why didn't he just settle for a stand-in instead of dragging you into it? What a damn nuisance."

Laura grabbed Cassie's arm. "Come on, let's go get you a villa. I know just the place."
