Chapter 622
In a hushed tone, Megan suddenly inquired, "By the way, how was your visit to the hospital today?"
Sensing the shift in atmosphere, Athena tactfully withdrew from the scene.
Joseph's handsome features hardened as he cast his gaze downward. "I've begun my medication regimen," he replied.
A wave of joy washed over Megan's face. "That's wonderful," she said, her voice filled with relief.
Joseph took a few absent-minded bites from his meal before rising and heading upstairs. Megan watched him go, her gaze lingering on the barely-touched steak. She clenched her teeth in frustration.
The following day dawned.
Peace Group.
Cassie, clad in a simple yet professional suit, radiated an aura of authority as she strode through the company's gates. As she passed the front desk, she rapped her knuckles lightly on the surface. The receptionist at the front desk glanced up timidly. "Good morning, Cassie," she acknowledged.
"Do you remember my face now? No need to schedule an appointment for next time," Cassie said, her smile confident as she headed straight for the elevator.
The receptionist's knees nearly buckled. She had received news that morning that Cassie would be replacing the current chairman. She had feared for her job, but, fortunately, her dismissal hadn't come to pass.
Upon entering the meeting room, Cassie found that all the shareholders had already arrived. They were all familiar faces. Megan was seated in the first chair on the right side, a crowd of shareholders surrounding her, lavishing her with compliments and gifts.
"Megan, when I was on a business trip abroad recently, I found this new bag. It's especially suited for you."
"Megan, this is a piece by a renowned artist. It's said that each painting is worth millions and is quite rare. I have some connections with him, so I'm gifting it to you."
"Megan, this bottle of wine was brought back from abroad. It's said to be forty years old."
Cassie settled into a leather chair and, after taking a sip of her now lukewarm tea, set it down with a thud on the table.
