Chapter 149

""I'm not someone you can just fall in love with."" With a touch of arrogance, he let her go and walked away, not bothering her further.

The matter seemed to be resolved, and Cassie breathed a sigh of relief. It looked like she would have to stick to the 'deep affection' act in the future.

...

Nine o'clock in the morning.

Upon arriving at the office, she went straight to see Billy Stone.

Since the incident at the police station, she had been on leave, not coming into the office.

Firstly, to avoid gossip that might embarrass Billy, and secondly, she didn't want the controversies surrounding her to tarnish Mason Stone's reputation any further.
Despite the lawsuit being behind her now, she still felt quite guilty about Billy Stone.

""Senior, I'm really sorry—I haven't been here long, and I seem to keep causing trouble for you and the company.""

Cassie was profoundly grateful; she knew that Billy had been under a lot of pressure for not firing her.

""It's okay, I've always had faith in you."" Billy Stone said with a smile as he poured her a cup of coffee . ""Besides, this might turn out to be a blessing in disguise. I've been aiming to break into the Madison market, and Height Company has always been our biggest rival. Now, Robert's planning on selling it.""

Cassie was stunned. Although she was aware that Height Company had hit a major snag, it seemed out of character for Robert to give up so easily.

And without Height Company, the Brooks family's standing in Madison would undoubtedly plummet. Could he really accept that?

""Don't be so surprised. Alexander's scandal has really tarnished Height Company's reputation. Nobody's going to dare partner with them anymore, at least not for the next couple of years. With a mass exodus of executives and designers, Robert's fighting a losing battle.""

Billy explained further, ""No sane person would invest in them now. Maybe Height Company could make a comeback after the dust settles, but to retain talent and cover the huge losses, it would bleed the Brooks family dry.""

Cassie understood. By selling Height Company now, Robert could still make a profit and cut his losses, keeping the capital for other investments.

""You've played a key role in this."" Billy raised his cup in a toast to her.

Cassie took a sip of her coffee and said, ""Senior, I'm ready to take on more responsibilities. I've had some recent expenses that I need to cover.""

""That's true—legal assistance can be quite costly.""

Billy chuckled, then pulled out a document from his drawer and handed it over. ""Ever heard of the Peace Group's new development? It's in a prime location in Madison, currently under construction. I've heard they need top-notch finishes for four apartment buildings and seven residential houses. Land this deal, and I'll give you ten million in commission, not including the design fee.""

Cassie's eyes sparkled with excitement. ""Senior, I'll give it my all.""

""The manager at Peace Group and I crossed paths back in the Harbor days. You can go right to him."" Billy handed her a business card.

Cassie was slightly taken aback, barely finding the words, ""Senior, if the other designers at the company find out about this...""
""I've provided a contact for you, but how you proceed is up to you."" Billy Stone said with a wink.

Cassie got the message loud and clear—she had to nail this project and couldn't let Billy down.

Back in her office, she was about to dive into the Peace Group file when Arthur Lewis called, out of the blue. She couldn't be bothered and hung up.

When Arthur persisted with a barrage of calls, she was so annoyed that she eventually blocked him."
