Chapter 1276: Dead
"If a regular Joe takes it, what happens?" Declan cut in, looking seriously pissed.
The doc looked shocked. "That'd be a mess. You know, all meds got some toxins. At first, it might just mess with sleep and cause fatigue. But later, it could screw with memory, make people dumber, cranky, spaced out, and super anxious. In the worst cases, they might start seeing things and get hooked."
"Hooked?" Declan's fists tightened, veins popping out.
The symptoms the doc listed matched Isabella's recent behavior to a T.
This was all on him. He'd been slacking, thinking Isabella was just being jealous and mad about Cassie, which led to their constant fights.
If Cassie hadn't said something, he wouldn't have thought to get Isabella checked out.
"Yeah, like a drug addiction," the doc said seriously. "If she stops cold turkey, she will get even more agitated. Her mood swings will get worse, and she might even lose it."
Declan shot up from his seat.
The doc looked a bit scared of his towering figure.
"Can it be fixed?" Declan asked.
"It can, but it'll take time. The big problem is we don't know exactly what she's been taking. I only found one component in her blood. You know, one med can have a bunch of different stuff in it, and Madison's meds are different from the ones we know."
The doc hesitated. "Also, we did the tests while she was out cold. Some brain tests need her to be awake, so she has to work with us."
Declan felt a wave of frustration.
Given Isabella's current state, she'd never go along with the tests. She might even want a divorce when she wakes up.
If only Everett were here, he could help talk her into it.
The usually decisive Declan was only ever this torn when it came to his wife.
If he could, he'd take Isabella back to Neya City for treatment, but what about Everett? Could he just leave him hanging?
"What if I find the meds?" Declan asked coldly.
"That'd make treatment a lot easier. Even if she doesn't cooperate, we'd have a better shot," the doc nodded.
"Please take care of her and try to let her sleep as much as possible," Declan frowned and instructed.
The doc shook his head. "That's not gonna work. If we sedate her, it'll put more strain on her body and brain, making treatment harder."
"Then I'll have someone guard the room to make sure she doesn't leave," Declan said through gritted teeth.
"That can be arranged."
Declan stormed out of the room.
He took the elevator to the parking lot. Once in the car, he pulled out a paper packet from his pocket, with a few strands of hair in it.
"Get the injured bodyguards sent back to Neya City for treatment," Declan told his assistant. "And take this with you. Get our hospital to do a paternity test ASAP."
The assistant looked surprised but quickly took the hair. "Whose hair is this?"
"Mrs. Wittelsbach's and Sophia's," Declan said calmly. "I don't trust the hospitals in Madison for a paternity test."
The assistant got the message.
Even though Declan kinda trusted Cassie, he still had to keep his guard up.
After all, who would've thought Olivia would turn out to be such a snake after coming to Madison?
"Alright, let's head back to the villa. I need to grill Olivia," Declan said, his face darkening.
He'd never been played by a woman like this before.
He thought Olivia was just a gold-digger, but drugging Isabella? That was next level.
He wanted to tear Olivia apart.
But first, he needed to figure out why Olivia had given Isabella those drugs.
He remembered Isabella always being nice to her. Maybe Isabella knew about Olivia's little schemes but still treated her like a daughter. Isabella had once told him she felt she owed this daughter and wanted to make it up to her. Did Olivia really need to go this far?
The car pulled up to the villa in no time.
As soon as Declan got out, he noticed some security guys missing from the front yard.
"Bad news," the butler said, rushing up to Declan. "Olivia fell from the building."
Declan froze, and his assistant blurted out, "How did that happen? Is she still alive?"
"She's dead," the butler said, trembling. "You told us to lock her up, so we put her on the third floor and locked the door. She must've tried to escape through the window and fell, hitting the concrete headfirst. Her skull's shattered."
"Useless," Declan cursed angrily and stormed over.
In the backyard, a bunch of security guys were gathered.
Olivia's body was covered with a white cloth near the wall.
Seeing Declan approach, the security guys quickly stepped aside.
Declan lifted the cloth and, seeing Olivia's condition, let out a dark laugh.
"I told you to watch her, and this is how you do it?" Declan's icy gaze swept over the security team.
These elite security guys felt the pressure facing Declan's towering figure.
Finally, a team leader stepped forward. "I'm sorry. We planned to seal the window, but there were no boards in the villa. I thought we could do it tomorrow. Besides, the yard is dark at night, and there are no pipes to climb down. We didn't expect her to escape."
"Yeah, we were startled by a sudden noise," another team member added. "Mr. Wittelsbach, even though you told us to watch her, we were also here to protect you. If word gets out that she died, it could be a problem. After all, she wasn't a criminal, and we have no proof of her crimes."
Declan shot the team member a cold look. He shivered but stood his ground. "I'm just stating the facts."
Declan stayed silent for a moment, then held out his hand to his assistant. "Get me a pair of gloves."
The assistant quickly fetched a pair of gloves from the villa and handed them over.
Declan personally examined Olivia's body, then glanced at the security team. Finally, he said to the team leader, "Take her away and handle it quietly. You know what to do."
With that, he turned and went upstairs, leaving the security team looking at each other, confused.
The assistant followed him closely. Once in the study, he asked quietly, "Declan, how did she suddenly die?"
"She was pushed by someone from the room," Declan said, lighting a cigarette.
