Chapter 1230 Have You fallen for Bernice?
"Sarah, you gotta know, everything you got is 'cause of me. I can snatch it all back without a second thought. Don't think Olivia's gonna help you out. She only got close 'cause you're marrying me. Once you lose that Mrs. Nelson title, you think she'll still hang with you?" Lucas shoved her aside and stormed out.
Sarah finally snapped. "Lucas, if you don't marry me, I ain't donating blood to Erin."
Lucas's eyes burned with pure hatred. "Sarah, I've put up with your crap for too long. I've showered you with money and a booming career, but you wanted more. You wanted to be my girl, even my wife. I agreed. No one's dared to threaten me like this in ages. The last one who did, well, they're dust now. Go ahead, try me."
With that, he left without a backward glance.
Sarah stood there, trembling, staring at the empty doorway.
She knew Lucas hated being threatened, but she was out of options.
If Lucas called off the engagement, she'd be a laughingstock in the entertainment world.
No way she was letting that happen.
Sarah clenched her fists. She wasn't giving up that easy.
She quickly called for an ambulance, which showed up fast and took her to the nearest hospital.
The next day, headlines blared about the famous star Sarah being rushed to the hospital late at night.
Sarah waited all night, and finally, her phone rang.
She answered weakly, "Erin."
"Sarah, why'd you end up in the hospital last night? You okay? Did Lucas go with you?" Erin's voice was full of concern.
"Erin." Sarah bit her lip, her voice hoarse and choked with sobs.
"Why are you crying?" Erin asked, unable to bear it. "Did Lucas do something?"
"Erin, last night Lucas kicked me in the stomach. It hurt so bad." Sarah's voice was filled with pain. "He also said he wouldn't marry me."
"What?" Erin was both angry and furious. "How could Lucas do that? He knows you gave me a kidney, and he still kicked you? That's too much. Does he want to call off the engagement? The whole world knows about the wedding, and the invites are out. He can't just cancel it."
"I don't know why he's acting like this." Sarah's voice was low and hurt. "Maybe it has something to do with that actress he's been into lately."
"Actress?" Erin was stunned. "Sarah, you might be misunderstanding. Lucas has never been serious about relationships. It's just a fling. Those things don't matter."
"I've never seen him this serious before. That actress has been staying in Nelson Hospital, and he's been visiting her every day. He doesn't even reply to my messages," Sarah said softly, "He also thinks I hurt that actress. I didn't do anything. I know what kind of person he is. I never expected him to settle down for me. I want to be with him."
"Sarah, don't worry. The wedding won't be canceled. Yancy and I will talk to Lucas. As for that actress, she won't mess up your marriage."
After Erin hung up, Sarah lay on the bed and sneered.
She knew if Lucas found out she’d snitched to Erin, he’d be even more pissed.
But she was out of options.
She had to let the Nelsons put the squeeze on him. She even suspected Bernice had a hand in Lucas calling off the wedding.
Back in the day, no matter how much he disliked her, he never treated her this bad.
She couldn’t pinpoint when it started, but Lucas had gotten meaner and meaner.
Meanwhile, Lucas woke up to the news about Sarah being hospitalized.
A cold glint flashed in his eyes as he dialed Max. "Why the hell didn’t you tell me Sarah was in the hospital last night? Now it’s all over the trending news."
Max sounded confused. "I thought she was just trying to drum up some publicity."
"Remember, I’m breaking off the engagement with her. From now on, you tell me immediately if anything happens with her. I’m done with women playing games with me." With that, Lucas hung up.
After changing into clean pants and a shirt, he drove straight to Nelson Hospital.
He didn’t bother going to the office but headed directly to the ER doctor. "Where’s Bernice? Which room is she in?"
The doctor gave him a weird look. "She was discharged at six this morning."
A flash of anger crossed Lucas’s eyes. "She fainted last night, and you let her leave like that?"
"She insisted on being discharged. Nothing we could do," the doctor said, "This is a hospital, not a prison. She signed the discharge papers, so we couldn’t force her to stay."
Lucas’s face was stone-cold, but he knew the doctor was right.
If she wanted to leave, the hospital couldn’t stop her.
Just thinking about her fainting last night made his blood boil.
Last night, she bit him and then bailed without a word.
He cursed under his breath, 'Bernice, you’re really something. Damn it!'
Lucas stormed out of the hospital and got into his car.
Just as he was about to start the engine, Yancy called him, "Get home now."
"If this is about Sarah, I don’t see the point." Lucas knew all of Sarah’s tricks. The more she played, the more he despised her.
"How is it not necessary? Sarah saved your mom. Having her around is a safety net for your mom’s health," Yancy snapped, "She’s just a woman. Marry her, keep her as a trophy. If she wants a career, give her one. If she wants money, give her money. The Nelson family can afford it."
"Dad, I hate being manipulated by a woman," Lucas said coldly, "If it weren’t for Mom, I’d have ditched her ages ago."
Yancy sneered. "I think you’re just making excuses. You’re smitten with that Bernice, aren’t you? The staff at Nelson Hospital is buzzing about it. Last night, you took her to the top-floor lounge and played until she passed out. You even got yourself hurt. Lucas, how could you change so much for a woman?"
"It’s not about her. I don’t let any woman sway me. Sarah crossed my line." Lucas’s voice dripped with disgust.
Yancy frowned. "If you don’t marry her, what if your mom needs blood again and Sarah refuses? You want your mom to die?"
