""You don't get it. This is the perfect chance to ruin her,"" Vera replied coolly, glancing at her daughter. ""Destroy her reputation before the Hernandez family, and you cut off her future entirely. Have you forgotten that I have a rapport with Celeste?""
Luna's eyes lit up as she realized what she meant. ""Mom, I'm with you. We can't let her keep rising in New York.""

After instructing Charles to expedite the land acquisition, Cassie received a call from Leo.
Hearing about an invitation from the Hernandez family to dinner at their estate, her face turned ashen.
Was Joseph doling out sympathy only to curry favor with Luna by throwing her a bone?
Women are creatures of emotion; on her way to the office today, she thought a lot, believing that Joseph didn't care for Luna.
But in an instant, it felt like a slap in the face.
Both the families were meeting; could it be to discuss a marriage?
What was she doing last night? She felt like a shameful third wheel.
""Cassie, did you hear what I said?"" Leo pressed, noticing her delay.
""Dad, I won't go,"" Cassie responded softly, ""My presence won't be appropriate, and the Hernandez family won't welcome it.""
""But Luna mentioned that Grandma is aware of your existence. It would be rude not to show,"" Leo sighed. ""Go on, take this chance to make an impression on the Hernandez family. It'll help you expand your social circle in the New York elite, and besides, Mildred and Joseph are different people, but Grandma is kind.""
""Alright then.""
Cassie mustered a wry smile, yet something felt off. Logically, Luna and Vera wouldn't want her joining them; tonight's visit to the Hernandez family might not be smooth sailing for her.

By four-thirty in the afternoon
Vera greeted her with a warmth that filled the room as she walked through the front door. ""We're headed to the Hernandez family dinner tonight, and honey, your everyday clothes just won't cut it. I went out today and bought you and Luna new outfits; they're on your bed. Go try them on.""
Cassie raised an eyebrow and headed upstairs. To her surprise, the latest spring collection from FENDI lay on her bed, complete with a neckline trimmed in crystals and gold. A casual glance at her phone revealed the outfit carried a price tag that boasted six figures.
What was Vera up to this time? She went all out for tonight.
At first, Cassie didn't quite get what Vera was aiming for, but when she saw Luna, all fresh-faced in a simple purple shirt and a knit vest, it all clicked into place.
Leo furrowed his brow. ""Doesn't Luna look a bit too plain for today?""
""It's meant to be this way. Grandma prefers modesty. Let's get going, or we'll be late,"" Vera said, interlocking her arm with Leo's as they headed for the parking lot.
