Chapter 1012 We Were Couple

Cassie felt totally helpless.

She remembered the first time she met Joseph. She started flirting right away, but he just scolded her, asking if she was nuts.

Back then, she thought he was clueless. She was hitting on him, and he didn't get it.

Now, she kinda understood how he felt.

Once inside the ER, Joseph needed a card, and had to fill out his name and phone number.

Joseph raised his injured right arm. "I can't write."

Cassie had to fill out the form, get the card, and register for him.

Joseph stuck close to her the whole time. The doctor checked him out, took X-rays, and said he needed an IV for inflammation.

After the nurse inserted the needle, Joseph checked the time; it was almost midnight. He wanted to spend more time with her but didn't want her to get too tired. "Can I borrow your phone? I need to call Nathaniel."

Cassie thought he wanted Nathaniel to come take care of him, so she handed over her phone.

But after dialing Nathaniel's number, he said, "I'm at the hospital. Come take Cassie home."

Cassie frowned. "I don't need Nathaniel to take me home. I can just grab a cab."

"No, it's not safe for you to take a cab this late," Joseph shook his head. "Give me the bill. I'll pay you back tomorrow."

Cassie gave him a sidelong glance.

All the beds were full, so he had to sit in a chair for the IV. The chaotic infusion room clashed with his elegant demeanor, making him look kinda pitiful.

She closed her eyes, trying not to soften. "You don't need to pay me back. I know you just want an excuse to keep in touch."

Joseph, caught in his intentions, smiled faintly. "If you don't want me to pay you back, I won't. After all, we were couple. I get it."

"No." Cassie was exasperated by his shamelessness. "I just don't want to give you a chance to get close to me."

"I know. You feel sorry for me not being as rich as before. You want me to save some money," Joseph said, his eyes full of affection.

Cassie was completely defeated. "I don't want to waste words with you. I'm leaving, and I don't need Nathaniel to take me."

Joseph was really infuriating, making her lose even the slightest bit of sympathy.

"Cassie, don't go. I know you want Nathaniel to stay with me. You're afraid it would be inconvenient for me to be here alone," Joseph's voice continued from behind.

Cassie couldn't take it anymore and finally gritted her teeth. "Fine. I'm worried. Please let me go. If I don't leave now, I'll knock you out with the IV bottle."

"If you really have to go, text Nathaniel when you get home. If you don't, I'll have to ask David if you got home safely." Joseph sighed, looking helpless.

"Fine. I'll let him know. You don't need to ask David. I'm staying at my dad's tonight." Cassie glared at him fiercely before finally leaving.

Joseph watched her go, a smile curling at the corners of his mouth.

He never thought he'd one day use every trick in the book to cling to a woman.

He used to look down on such behavior, but now he realized that chasing after the woman he loved wasn't so bad.

When Cassie got to the villa, she immediately texted Nathaniel: [I'm home.]

Nathaniel quickly replied: [That's good. Get some rest. From Joseph]

It seemed Joseph had used Nathaniel's phone to reply.

After a shower, Cassie lay in bed, her mind replaying Joseph's face, and she couldn't sleep.

Meanwhile, David, after getting a call from Felix, was so mad he crushed his phone.

Felix was fuming on the other end. "What kind of lousy idea did you give me? Not only did it not kill Joseph, but he also saved Marigold, turning him into the Dixon family's hero. I heard Mr. Dixon kept thanking Joseph."

David gritted his teeth. "I never expected the elevator to fall from the twentieth floor, and Joseph not only survived but also managed to escape with Marigold. How is that even possible?"

"Anyway, I shouldn't have listened to you. You've ruined me. If it was just Joseph, it would be fine, but Marigold was in there too. Now the Dixon and Jude families are investigating. If they trace it back to me, I'm done." Felix angrily hung up.

In the darkness, David squinted his sinister eyes, then suddenly laughed.

Although it was a pity Joseph wasn't killed, if Felix got implicated, it wouldn't be a bad thing either.

After all, David couldn't keep working for the Chamberlain family forever.

On the other side, after hanging up, Felix immediately went to find Marcus.

After hearing the story, Marcus slapped him without a word. "Who gave you the guts to make a move at the Jude family banquet?"

Larry also shook his head. "You really have guts. Marcus and I were trying to build good relationships with those politicians, and you went and caused trouble behind our backs."

Felix, looking disheveled, said, "I only had someone make a move after the banquet ended and I had left. I specifically instructed them not to hurt anyone else. Who knew Marigold would rush in at the last moment."

Larry rubbed his temples in frustration and finally looked at Marcus. "Marcus, Marigold got involved tonight. I heard the Dixon and Jude families are already investigating this thoroughly. They will definitely trace it back to Felix. I know you're disappointed in Felix, but he's part of the Chamberlain family. If Felix gets caught, the Chamberlain family will definitely be affected."

"Do you think if they don't trace it back to him, the Dixon and Jude families won't suspect the Chamberlain family?" Marcus glared at him fiercely. "At the banquet, everyone saw us targeting Joseph. Even if no one said it, they all knew it. If something happens to Joseph, someone will definitely suspect us."

"So what do we do?" Felix was completely panicked.

"Marcus, you should help Felix. After all, he is your nephew," Larry pleaded. "You're always the most resourceful."

Marcus squinted his eyes, and after a long time, clenched his fist and said, "The only way is to pin all the blame on Savannah. Didn't everyone see Joseph and Savannah have a conflict last night?"

Felix's eyes lit up. "Will Savannah admit to it? And last night, we were the ones who instigated her to frame Joseph."
