Chapter 1061 Michael, Are You happy?
Joseph replied: [Why don't you divorce David? Didn't you understand what I said?]
[Cassie, I know you care about Sophia and Oliver. Are you staying with David for another purpose, or are you trying to get evidence that he harmed Sophia and Oliver?]
[Sweetie, come back. If David finds out, you'll be in danger.]
Cassie had to admit that Joseph was alert at times. However, she was investigating Arthur's death. If David was responsible, Cassie was determined to personally send him to prison. That was her promise to Kayla.
She turned off her phone and didn't reply to Joseph.
The next day at the office, she called Spencer. "David's villa is full of surveillance cameras. Do you have a way to temporarily malfunction the surveillance without being detected? I want to check his bedroom, study, and computer."
"We can cut the power," Spencer said, "But if you cut the power from inside the villa, it will arouse his suspicion. The only way is to cut the power to the entire area."
"That works." Cassie nodded. "I'll find out David's schedule, and we'll plan our move. It should be in the next couple of days; I don't want to drag this out any longer."
The accident involving Sophia and Oliver made her realize that she couldn't keep pretending around David. She felt that David's gaze was becoming increasingly intense.
In the courtroom, it was the first hearing in the case between Joseph and Megan.
They were for over ten years; now, they were facing off in court for over ten billion dollars.
The public was highly interested in this case, and a large group of reporters had already gathered at the courthouse early in the morning.
At 10 a.m., Michael accompanied Megan upstairs, followed by Mark, a top international lawyer.
Joseph, dressed in a black bespoke suit with a meticulously tied dark green tie, looked extremely stern and handsome.
To Joseph, the courtroom was like his battlefield.
Megan sighed inwardly. She had to admit that Joseph was one of the most attractive and charismatic men, but she had never truly had him.
But now, she no longer cared about Joseph, as she had found a better option.
"Joseph, I never thought we'd end up here." Megan smiled bitterly. "Come on! You were my true love. Why did it have to come to this? I never wanted this."
Michael also looked conflicted. Joseph had been his best friend, but now he had to stand by Megan's side. "Joseph."
"Unfortunately, you're the most disgusting part of my life," Joseph replied coldly to Megan, ignoring Michael.
"Joseph, you are really hurtful," Michael said angrily, "Even if you can't be a couple, you don't have to become enemies."
"Michael, are you happy? For Megan, you gave up your child and your family," Joseph asked coldly.
Michael was momentarily speechless. He felt that the Jude family had completely cut ties with him. Sometimes, Michael regretted it, but he had no choice now. Since he pursued Megan, he had to see it through. "I have no regrets."
"Michael, thank you," Megan said, her eyes welling up with tears.
Joseph found it utterly disgusting. He deeply regretted ever crushing on Megan.
"Mr. Hernandez, I've heard a lot about you. Although you were quite famous in the country, you hit a wall when you met me." Mark suddenly smiled. "If I were you, I'd consider an out-of-court settlement."
Joseph glanced at him indifferently. "If you can make it to the next hearing, then you might have some skill."
With that, he walked into the courtroom with his hands in his pockets.
Mark was furious. "Joseph, I'll make sure you lose miserably."
Soon, the court session began.
Joseph was both the plaintiff and his lawyer, a rare occurrence.
After the judge outlined the case, Mark stood up and said, "Your Honor, I don't believe my client, Megan, should be required to return the money to the plaintiff, Joseph. Megan has known Joseph since she was eight, and they entered into a romantic relationship when she was eighteen.. It is well-known that Joseph has mental health issues, but Megan never abandoned him. She even studied psychology for Joseph, and it was she who cured his illness. Joseph has never paid Megan any medical expenses. Moreover, Joseph proposed to Megan ten years ago but never fulfilled his promise. I strongly suspect Joseph was toying with Megan's feelings and wasting her youth. Additionally, when Joseph gave Megan ten billion dollars, it was clearly stated as a gift. According to Madison law, gifted property cannot be reclaimed. The amount might seem large, but Joseph's willingness to give it shows he felt he owed Megan."
After Mark finished, the jury looked at Joseph with some disdain, especially since the judge, Cherie Flores, was a woman who despised men who mistreated women.
Joseph stood up. "When I dated the defendant in my youth, I thought she was a kind-hearted girl. From the time we started dating until a few months ago, when we broke up, Megan received gifts worth one hundred million dollars from me. Here are the receipts. It does not include the ten billion dollars I gifted her."
Megan was taken aback.. She had yet to expect Joseph to have printed out receipts from over ten years ago.
Mark sneered. "Joseph, you are meticulous. Probably only you would keep such detailed accounts."
Joseph retorted, "Probably few people in the world would spend as much on their girlfriend as I did. Additionally, Nathan manages the Zenith Group behind Megan. To support Nathan, I secretly invested millions of dollars in the Zenith Group over the years. I also handled several lawsuits for Nathan, each costing millions of dollars in legal fees, for which I never charged."
He paused and looked at Cherie. "Here are the financial transfer records. Also, Megan had an inappropriate relationship with a drug addict named Rex while she was with me. The police investigation records are also included."
