Chapter 1226 Disgusting?
At Nelson Hospital.
Lucas hung up the phone, and right on cue, a delivery guy showed up with a bowl of porridge for him.
He grabed the porridge and headed over to Bernice's hospital room.
It was already past nine at night, and the place was pretty dead, except for Bernice's room, which was buzzing with noise.
There were a dude and a chick crying and arguing right outside her door, drawing a crowd.
"Bernice, please, let your dad off the hook. If he wasn't sick and we weren't broke, he wouldn't be asking you for money," Maya pleaded, making sure everyone around can hear.
People were pointing and whispering, making a scene.
Lucas frowned. Dreamscape Entertainment Group had kept Bernice's stay on the down-low, so how did these folks find out?
He was about to step in.
Out of nowhere, Bernice's assistant, Stella, dumped a bucket of water on them.
Even though it was not freezing, the cold water soaked Bruce and Maya, making them shiver. And it was not just water; it smelt funky.
Maya held it together, but Bruce, who’d never been humiliated like this, lost it. "What the hell did you throw on us?"
Bernice, in her hospital gown, leaned against the wall. She looked sick but still stunning. Her words, though, were sharp enough to cut.
"My pee," she said calmly. Lucas, walking up, couldn't help but twitch his handsome face.
Maya bent over and started puking right there.
She couldn't wrap her head around how Bernice, a big-time star, could pull such a shameless stunt.
Maya's fuming. "Bernice, you're asking for it."
She charged at Bernice, but before she got close, Lucas kicked her to the ground with his long leg.
After kicking her, Lucas wiped his shoe on the ground to get rid of Maya's water.
Maya hit the ground hard, her whole body aching. She got up to fight back but freezeds when she saw Lucas's tall figure.
Maya started yelling, "The doctor hit us! The doctor at this hospital is trying to kill us!"
"Mom, she must be hooking up with some guy in the hospital. She can't even behave while she's here," Maya shouted, convinced that Lucas, who looked so decent, must be involved with Bernice.
"You've gone too far. My dad stabbed me and put me in the hospital. I want justice for myself. I've had enough of being your cash machine all these years. Even if you make a scene all night, I won't drop the lawsuit." Bernice looked furious, then clutchedher wound, closed her eyes, and fainted in Stella's arms.
She looked like she passed out from too much stress.
Stella paniced. "Mr. Nelson, what should we do? Bernice fainted."
"I'll take her to the emergency room," Lucas said, then picked Bernice up. As he left, he glared at Bruce and Maya. "Call security to throw these troublemakers out."
Bruce and Maya were left stunned.
They thought Bernice was just putting on a show.
But nobody gave them a chance to argue. The crowd was all over them, pointing fingers and looking disgusted.
"She passed out from anger. How could they do that to her?"
"I heard her say her dad stabbed her. That's illegal. Isn't it normal to sue?"
"They're just trying to avoid jail time by causing a scene here."
Under the crowd's scorn, Bruce and Maya bolted, totally embarrassed. Meanwhile, hospital security showed up and dragged them to a storage room instead of kicking them out.
Lucas rushed Bernice to the elevator, but instead of heading to the emergency room, he took her to his private lounge.
Once inside, he laid the "unconscious" Bernice on the bed. "Alright, you can drop the act now. It's just us."
Bernice slowly opened her eyes. She had been counting on Stella to play along, but Lucas had taken over.
"Nice performance," Lucas said, smirking.
Honestly, if Sarah had pulled a stunt like this, he would've been grossed out, but with Bernice, he found it kinda amusing.
"Not bad," Bernice replied coolly as she sat up, though the movement tugged at her back wound, making her wince.
"Alright, lie down and don't move," Lucas said, seeing through her act and warning her in a low voice, "You're staying here tonight. Your room's been compromised, and reporters will definitely sneak in."
"Anyway, I'm getting discharged tomorrow. Might as well leave tonight," Bernice said, not wanting to stay in his lounge.
"Nope," Lucas shot back, "You have a check-up tomorrow morning."
"I'm fine. I can come back the day after tomorrow for the check-up."
"Nope," Lucas insisted firmly, "I'm your attending physician. If you leave early and something happens, you'll blame me, and I'll be liable in court."
Bernice was speechless. "Do I look like someone who'd bother you with such trivial stuff? Besides, nothing's gonna happen to me."
"Who knows? You can't judge a book by its cover," Lucas said with a raised eyebrow and a light smile.
Bernice laughed in frustration. "How about I sign a waiver? If anything happens after I leave, I'll take full responsibility."
"Still no," Lucas said, looking at her with a smirk, "I'll feel better if you stay in the hospital tonight. Just one night, don't mess with your health. Sometimes, women need to show a bit of vulnerability."
"I naturally show vulnerability in front of the person I love. With you, I won't," Bernice said, still as stubborn as ever, "Please, you're about to get married. Stop flirting with me. I've already told you, I find it disgusting."
"Disgusting? Then go ahead and puke, let's see what happens," Lucas said, his patience wearing thin.
Bernice fell silent.
Seeing her stay quiet, Lucas chuckled. "See, you're not that disgusted. Besides, I just helped you. If I hadn't carried you away so quickly, could Stella have handled it? Maya would've kept crying and causing a scene, maybe even shaking you violently."
