Chapter 1795 You Are Not Bernice

"We should have lunch together."

Lucas tapped his wristwatch. "It's twelve noon. There's a nice restaurant downstairs. We can talk about some matters regarding the Nelson Group."

Nina smiled faintly. "Sorry, I'm afraid having a meal with you might ruin my appetite, you know."

"I understand." Lucas wasn't angry, with a slight smile on his lips. "But you've gone through so much trouble to get into the Nelson Group and have fiercely retaliated against me. Don't you want to hear my thoughts? Or maybe show off a bit in front of me? Besides, I see you have quite a bit of knowledge in management. For the future of the Nelson Group, I think we could discuss it."

"Since you put it that way, lead the way."

Nina put on her sunglasses and walked ahead.

Sofia immediately followed.

Lucas took long strides to catch up.

One day, he never thought he would be following behind a woman.

Restaurant.

Soft saxophone music filled the entire restaurant.

On the pure white European-style tables and chairs, there was a single red rose.

Nina took the rose, twirling it between her fingers. "Is this the nice restaurant you mentioned? I think it's just so-so."

With that, she gently tossed the rose, the stem forming a perfect arc in the air before landing in the trash can.

"Let me guess." Nina looked around playfully. "You specifically chose this place. I bet there's a surveillance camera above us, or someone secretly taking pictures of us having dinner together to post online. Then netizens will wildly speculate, saying that after all the fuss I made, I'm now having dinner with you just to get your attention."

"You're very smart." Lucas sat across from her, staring at Nina's small face.

It was strange. It was still that very familiar face, but he suddenly felt that the woman in front of him seemed to be wearing layers of masks.

For the first time, he couldn't see through a woman.

"Who are you really?" Lucas stared at her, his gaze sharp. "You're not Bernice."

Nina felt nervous inside but remained calm on the surface. "If I'm not Bernice, then who am I?"

Lucas smiled, but there was no warmth in his eyes. "After you sent me to prison, I had someone investigate you. The Bernice I knew came from a small town, graduated from an ordinary college, and had divorced parents. She grew up in poverty. If she hadn't met Gary, she wouldn't have had a chance to enter the entertainment industry. Even your academic performance was never outstanding; you were just diligent. But now, you've become Reborn."

Nina calmly picked up the menu and flipped through it, answering his question in passing. "Some things you find out might just be what I want others to see."

"Is that so?" Lucas leaned back in his chair, his eyes scrutinizing. "Let me think. When did Reborn first appear? Four years ago? Or five? And how old are you? You're twenty-four this year. So, did you go abroad at nine? You didn't even have any records of going abroad back then. Unless you're a genius, but given your upbringing, you knew nothing about finance. You didn't study it, and your parents were just ordinary workers."

"Unless you're not the real Reborn. You're just using her name. Or you're not the real Bernice. You're impersonating Bernice."

Lucas tapped his fingers on the table. "If I'm not mistaken, you were the one who exposed Cecilia and Herschel's scandal, right? Max and I had long suspected that those photos and texts came from someone within the company, but the last person we suspected was you."

Nina raised an eyebrow, neither confirming nor denying, but shrugged. "Go on."

"Actually, it's not hard to figure out. You've been with the company for a few years and have often attended company events. You had a good relationship with Fiona. It wouldn't have been difficult for you to get those things."

Lucas squinted. "Then you collaborated with Stellar Entertainment Group, became a major shareholder, acquired several video and film companies, and surrounded Dreamscape Entertainment Group. You used negative information about some of the company's artists to force them to other companies, gradually turning Dreamscape Entertainment Group into an empty shell. You're really impressive."

"Thanks for the compliment." Nina looked up and asked, "Can we order now? I'm a bit hungry."

"My treat. Order whatever you like." Lucas took out a pack of cigarettes. "Do you mind if I smoke?"

"What if I say I do?" Nina blinked. "Have I ever told you that your habit of smoking regardless of the occasion really disgusts me? I hate the smell of smoke."

"So, when I used to smoke in bed, you were just enduring it?"

"Yes, it made me want to vomit." Nina said, "But I couldn't say anything back then. After all, you might have patted my face and said, 'Bernice, I'm smoking in front of you because I respect you.'"

Lucas laughed, his handsome eyebrows arching. "How do you know me so well? It seems we're quite a match. I apologize for what I said before. Come back to me, Bernice. I'm starting to appreciate you."

"Do you think you're worthy of me?" Nina retorted.

"I was too selfish before, not letting you enjoy yourself." Lucas spread his hands. "I can please you properly now, make you happy, really."

Nina looked up from the menu and glanced at him. "I'm now a shareholder of the Nelson Group and Stellar Entertainment Group. The last thing I lack is money. Do you think, given my status, I would choose you, an old man who's been with countless women and has been to prison, over pure and clean men? As long as I have money, there are plenty of men willing to please me. What makes you think you can compete with them?"

Lucas was stunned.

Those words were particularly harsh and somewhat familiar.

"Does it sound familiar?" Nina seemed to see through him. "I was just with Gary for a while, not my first time having sex. You often looked down on me for that. In your eyes, I was just a plaything. So, men can despise women, but women can't despise men?"

"Bernice, you're taking revenge on me. Do you hate me that much?" Lucas sighed. "If your goal was to retaliate and teach me a lesson, I indeed feel it now."
