Chapter 317

"Cassie remained silent.

In her heart, she figured that if Vera could easily arrange for Clark to kill her, her own mother's death was likely orchestrated in just the same way.

Today, Leo realized Vera's true nature; he had probably never doubted the circumstances of his own wife's death before that.

""Don't worry, Cassie. I am determined to divorce her this time,"" Leo assured her before he returned to draft the divorce papers.

David shared a harsh truth. ""Your dad won't be able to get this divorce.""

""Yeah,"" Cassie replied, feeling the weight of reality. ""The Chapmans and the Hernandezs have been in business for years, and Luna is Joseph's girlfriend. The Hernandez family wouldn't want a girl from a broken home. Considering this, my grandparents and everyone else at the Chapman estate won't agree to the divorce.""

A look of regret crossed David's face. ""So this time...""

""The enemy won't be taken down in one fell swoop."" Cassie lowered her eyes. The only chance for the Chapmans to agree to Leo divorcing Vera would be if Luna were no longer Joseph's girlfriend.

Deep into the night, in a secluded rural area
Olivia sprinted for her life toward the outskirts of the village; for days and nights, she had been tormented to the brink of insanity by that vile old man.

""Stop, you wench!"" bellowed the ferocious old man with a club, frantically chasing her from behind.

Just as he nearly caught up, a minivan suddenly stopped in front of Olivia, and someone inside quickly pulled her aboard.

The van sped away, and only when they had lost the man in pursuit did Olivia feel truly safe.

She had finally escaped—no more laundry, cooking, forced childbearing, hunger, or cold to endure.
And it was all because of Cassie and Joseph that she endured such misery.

""Are you Olivia Brooks?"" A man in the van eyed her with disdain.

""Do you know me?"" she gasped, startled.

""Someone wants to see you.""

Five hours later, blindfolded, Olivia was taken to an unfamiliar place.

""Where am I? Who are you?""

""You don't need to know who I am. Just understand that I can help you take revenge on Cassie and Joseph."" A mysterious voice rose beside her.

Olivia paused. The flames of vengeance consumed her as she said, "Really? But doesn't Joseph have a special status?"

"If I could find you, rest assured, I know everything. I'll help you assume a new identity."

"Okay," Olivia agreed without hesitation.
She couldn't stand her wretched existence any longer; her suffering would be repaid a thousandfold.

New York, nightfall.

Nine-thirty at the Hernandez family Estate

Joseph stepped into the foyer, enveloped by the night, casually handing his suit jacket to a servant and casting his gaze upon Mildred, who was waiting for him on the sofa."
