Chapter 1766 She Really Is Quite Handsome

Gabriella gasped. She never thought Bernice would be so ambitious. But honestly, this side of Bernice was pretty impressive.

Over the next few days, Bernice chilled at home, occasionally going shopping or hitting up a spa with Laura and Cassie. She was living the good life.

One day, while Bernice was playing badminton with Laura and Cassie, Laura's phone rang. It was Derek.

"Where are you?" he asked.

"I'm playing badminton with Bernice," Laura replied, sounding a bit annoyed. "Do you need something? If not, I'm hanging up. I need to get back to the game."

Derek's handsome face twisted in irritation. "Doesn't she need to work? You've been hanging out with her a lot lately. Have you forgotten you have a boyfriend?"

"How could I forget?" Laura chuckled. "It's just that every time we go out, it's the same old stuff—eating, movies, walking, shopping. It's getting kinda boring."

Derek felt a pang of hurt, his voice rising with anger. "Are you saying you're bored with me?"

"No," Laura quickly backtracked, realizing she was in hot water. "You can hang out with your friends, too. Bernice rarely has free time, and as friends, we can't just ditch her because of our relationships."

After all, who knew when love might change? Friends were more reliable. She kept that last thought to herself.

Derek snorted, "Looks like I need to introduce a boyfriend to Bernice."

"Why are you like Joseph? He also said he wanted to set her up with someone," Laura laughed.

"That's because she's hogging our women," Derek grumbled. "Tell me where you are. I'll bring a friend over."

"Alright, but if he's not handsome, don't bother," Laura teased.

Derek went silent.

After the call, Bernice tossed a water bottle to Laura. "If you want to chat, do it on the side. Let Cassie have a turn."

"Exactly," Cassie chimed in. "I want to play. I lost a game earlier and need to redeem myself."

"I'm done with the call," Laura said mysteriously. "Derek's bringing a male friend over. Bernice, your chance is here."

Bernice rolled her eyes. "Thanks, but Derek's friends are probably all rich or powerful. I'm just a celebrity, not exactly their type. Forget it."

"Don't worry, Derek's got good judgment. He wouldn't bring someone with bad character," Laura assured her. "Derek's a good guy, and so are his friends."

Just then, two tall, handsome guys walked into the gym. One in black sportswear, the other in white—it was Joseph and Lucas.

Cassie shot Laura a cold look. "Sorry, but Joseph's friend is not a good guy."

Laura coughed awkwardly. "It's fine. Some people keep to themselves and won't be a bad influence."

Bernice said nothing, just sat down to rest, sipping water and wiping the sweat off her face with a towel.

"Darling, I didn't expect to see you here," Joseph said, looking a bit surprised and nervous. After all, Cassie had been really mad at Lucas lately, not even letting Joseph sleep in the bed.

Joseph quickly added, "If I knew you were coming, I wouldn't have invited Lucas. You know I don't have many friends." He shot Lucas a look of disdain.

Lucas stayed silent. Damn, Joseph was the type to ditch friends for his wife. But if Lucas had known Bernice would be here, he wouldn't have come either. He glanced at Bernice, who was sitting far away, engrossed in her phone, and frowned. She didn't even bother to say hello.

"You guys go play over there," Cassie said, pointing to an empty court. She didn't want to be too close to Lucas.

Joseph hesitated but, seeing Lucas beside him, had no choice but to head to the other court with him.

Cassie walked over to Bernice apologetically. "Bernice, I'm sorry. This gym membership was a gift from Joseph. I played here once and thought the court was nice, so I brought you. I didn't expect Lucas and Joseph to show up too."

Laura chimed in, "What a coincidence, Cassie. Did Joseph know you were coming and follow you on purpose?"

"No, he knows I don't like Lucas," Cassie replied. But she couldn't shake the feeling that there was something strange between Bernice and Lucas. Whisperlyn City was huge, yet these two kept running into each other.

"It's fine. Lucas is the boss of Dreamscape Entertainment Group. The company has various events, so it's impossible not to see him," Bernice said just as her phone rang. It was Max.

"You guys go ahead," Bernice said, handing over her racket and walking to the corner of the gym.

"Bernice, Emery asked me to check when you'll return to the set to continue filming the drama you were working on. You're the lead actress, and without you, the crew can't proceed," Max said anxiously.

After Bernice and Cecilia's scandals, the crew had stopped filming.

"You mean that drama?" Bernice said lazily. "But didn't Emery say I caused a scandal, asked me to compensate for the losses, and terminate my contract?"

"That was before. Now that you've cleared your name, Emery has refunded the compensation. He still appreciates you. Replacing you was a last resort," Max explained.

"Who replaced Cecilia?" Bernice asked curiously.

Max coughed, "Don't worry about that. The company will handle it. Just focus on your role as the lead actress."

Bernice, being sharp, smiled. "Mr. Jenkins, is it inconvenient to say? Did they replace her with Sarah?"

"Bernice, the company's new actors need more experience. Sarah is more suitable," Max said vaguely.

Bernice couldn't help but laugh. The company was shameless. "Mr. Jenkins, to be honest, I've already terminated my contract with Emery. I never liked that script. If the company hadn't forced me to take it and not allowed me to film elsewhere, I wouldn't have taken that lousy drama. Now that I've terminated the contract, I have no intention of returning. With my top-notch acting skills, that kind of drama doesn't match my status."
