Chapter 1634 Discovery

"Shoes?" Derek raised an eyebrow, "What shoes?"

"Running shoes, I need a pair of lightweight running shoes."

Derek said, "I can go shopping with you, but you have to pay for the shoes yourself."

Laura was taken aback, "You can't even buy me a pair of shoes? Are you out of money? How about I pick a pair that costs a few hundred dollars?"

"You're overthinking it, I'm not that poor."

Derek chuckled and said with a hint of meaning, "I'll pay for anything else you want, but giving a girlfriend shoes is bad luck, especially running shoes. If you wear running shoes, you might run away fast. If you disappear in the future, how pitiful would I be?"

Laura was stunned for a long time before she reacted, a bit speechless, "Is it that serious?"

"It is." Derek said, "I have a friend who gave his girlfriend a pair of shoes when they first started dating, and they broke up not long after. I didn't believe it before, but now that I have a girlfriend I care about, I don't want to take that risk."

Laura smiled.

Listen to him, he's being so sweet and charming, how could she insist?

If she pushed too hard, what if he really lost her?

"Don't worry." Derek squeezed the back of her hand, his tone sweet, "After we get married, you can have as many pairs as you want."

"Marriage is still far off." Laura deliberately huffed.

"No matter how far, I'll wait."

More words of affection.

Laura leaned over and kissed him on the cheek, "Drive."

"Okay, Ms. Miller."

Derek fastened his seatbelt properly.

Laura curled up in her seat and laughed. Being with him always put her in a good mood.

"What do you want to eat?" he asked.

"I don't know, you decide. If the place isn't good, I'll hold you accountable."

After throwing out that arrogant remark, Laura took out her phone and called Rose to ask about Maeve.

"Maeve's been good. She just had some fruit puree. If you don't want to come back for dinner, we can handle it."

Laura was surprised, "Mom, I haven't even said I wouldn't come back for dinner yet."

"If you were coming back for dinner, why would you call me at this time?" Rose knew Laura too well, "Go have fun. You come straight home after work every day without even a date. Do you really want to be single forever? Only by going out more after work can you meet quality men."

Laura was speechless, "Mom, I just wanted to spend more time with you and Dad. You've only been in Whisperlyn City for a short time, and you're already complaining about me being home."

"When I was in Silverwood and couldn't see you, I missed you a lot. Now that I'm in Whisperlyn City and see you without a decent date, I'm worried."

"Alright, my heart is broken. I'll go find a man to date right now."

Laura hung up the phone in frustration.

Her phone's volume was quite loud, and in the quiet car, Derek had heard everything and was now laughing.

"Your mom is quite interesting."

"Moms are pretty much the same everywhere." Laura glanced at him with a strange tone, "You were jealous just a few days ago, so I came straight home after work every day."

"I was wrong." Derek held her hand and kissed it.

Twenty minutes later, the car stopped in front of a small restaurant.

Laura got out first and waited for him to park the car under a sycamore tree.

After Derek turned off the engine and was about to get out, his phone rang.

He pressed the answer button, and a voice came through, "Derek, your car is being followed."

"Who?"

"It should be Michael. He followed you from DreamDazzle Beauty Co. I didn't call you earlier because Laura was in the car."

"Got it."

Derek's eyes darkened.

As he got out, he glanced back subtly, then walked forward and took Laura's hand, "Let's go in."

This simple action had an enormous impact on the stalking Michael.

From a car not far away, Michael watched the two of them walk into the restaurant hand in hand.

His mind felt like it was exploding.

Today, Michael had specifically gone to DreamDazzle Beauty Co. to wait for Laura. He knew that if he asked her out, she definitely wouldn't see him.

As long as he kept persisting, he believed she would forgive him one day.

But he hadn't waited long before Derek showed up.

Then Derek and Laura came out together, chatting and laughing, and Laura even gave Derek the car keys.

After getting in the car, they didn't drive off immediately.

A man and a woman alone in a car, what could they be doing?

Michael's mind raced with thoughts. He even imagined them hugging, kissing, or doing something more intimate.

Unfortunately, the car's privacy tint was too good, and he couldn't see anything.

He had wanted to go knock on the window several times but held back.

He later calmed down and told himself that maybe they were just talking about something simple.

After all, even if Derek had intentions, Laura wouldn't be so foolish.

She was a woman with Michael's child; she wouldn't secretly be with her ex-husband's cousin, right?

Moreover, in the eyes of outsiders, they were still considered siblings.

If word got out, their reputations would be damaged. Derek wouldn't ruin his future like that.

So, Michael just silently followed them, wanting to see what they were up to.

Later, near the restaurant, Laura got out first. She stood by the roadside with her phone, and soon after, Derek parked the car and got out to hold her hand.

As they went inside, Derek even pulled Laura into his arms and kissed her on the cheek.

Laura, with her head down, seemed very accustomed to this.

At that moment, Michael's mind truly exploded, and even his hands and feet were trembling.

How could this be? How could this be?

Laura couldn't believe these two were together.

How could they do this?

One was Michael's cousin, and the other was Michael's ex-wife.

And it hadn't been long since Michael and Laura divorced.

Just thinking about his former wife being intimate with another man made Michael feel like a hole had been dug in his chest, causing him unbearable pain and even making his eyes red.

Why? Why would they do this to him?

Derek, how could you do this to me?

I treated you like a real brother since we were kids.

And Laura, did you forget you promised to be a good wife?

How long has it been, and you've already changed your heart?

Didn't you say you loved me?

Didn't you used to call me dear?

Didn't you used to hug and kiss me?

Didn't you used to be shy in front of me?

Michael's eyes were completely red.

He clenched his hands tightly, veins bulging on the back of his hands.

At that moment, he wanted to destroy everything.

A traffic cop knocked on the window outside.
