Chapter 973 Not Worthy of Loving Her

Joseph was confused as to why he had forgotten so many happy memories with Cassie. He never expected that he would almost lose his life once trying to save Cassie.

'How special was Cassie to me back then?'

Joseph wanted to figure it out quickly, but he hesitated. He was afraid that he and Cassie were actually deeply in love, but because his memory was altered, he abandoned Cassie and hurt their child.

Joseph feared that the harm he caused Cassie was deeper than he imagined.

He sat in the car for half an hour before finally deciding to find Maria.

After receiving his call, Maria quickly came out holding an old notebook. When she saw Joseph, she called out, "Mr. Hernandez."

"Maria, you still remember me." Joseph looked at Maria and realized that he did remember her.

"Of course, I've been a nanny for so many years, and you and Miss Brooks left the deepest impression on me." After saying this, Maria suddenly paused with guilt and then said, "Sorry to mention your ex-wife. I hope I didn't offend you."

"No." Joseph tried hard to be calm.

Maria asked nervously, "Why did you suddenly come to find me?"

"I had an illness before and lost many memories of living in Silverwood. I just wanted to ask you about it," Joseph found an excuse and said. "Could you tell me about some things between Cassie and me?"

Maria looked at him with a surprised and sympathetic expression. "Well, actually, I don't know much about the specifics between you and Miss Brooks. I'm just a nanny. Your relationship with Miss Brooks was sometimes good and sometimes bad. When it was good, you were very close; when it was bad, you argued."

"What do you mean?" Joseph's pupils contracted, and he swallowed hard.

"When you are sweet, Miss Brooks would make you breakfast every day. Sometimes, if she came home early, she would make dinner for you. My cooking skills are decent, but you didn't like my food as much. You loved everything Miss Brooks made. When you had conflicts, you would leave for a few days, and when you made up, you were very sweet again." Maria sighed. "You two were quite a match. Maybe it was because you were young and prone to misunderstandings. I remember one night you had a quarrel with Miss Brooks. I was downstairs and didn't dare to go up. The next day, you signed the divorce papers. Miss Brooks was quite sad. Oh, here you are." Maria quickly handed over the notebook. "This is the recipe book Miss Brooks gave me the day she left. She wrote it herself. It contains all your favorite dishes. She said you had a bad stomach and was afraid you wouldn't eat properly after she left, so she asked me to follow her recipes."

Joseph took the recipe book in a daze. He opened it and saw the faint writing , and the notebook was old. But he recognized it; it was Cassie's handwriting.

When Cassie and Joseph lived together, Joseph had seen Cassie's handwriting.

Joseph pondered, 'Cassie cared so much about my health. Cassie cared so much about me.'

Maria said, "Miss Brooks was good. I've been a nanny for decades and have never met someone with such a good temper. She didn't treat me like a nanny. Sometimes, when I was working, she would always urge me to rest. I spoke frankly with her sometimes, and she never blamed me. Before she moved into the villa, you rarely stayed home. You would go out in the morning and only come back at night. After she moved in, you went to work with her every day and came back on time after work. Most of the time, you waited for Miss Brooks to come back because she was busy with work. You even complained that she cared too much about work and not enough about you."

Joseph listened in a daze. He asked himself inwardly, 'Really? Did I actually come home on time for Cassie?'

"Maria, is everything you said true?" Joseph asked.

"I have no reason to lie to you. I haven't worked for you in a long time," Maria said frankly.

"Did Cassie and I get intimate and such?" Joseph asked in a low voice. In his memory, he was very repulsed by Cassie's closeness and touch three years ago. Cassie got pregnant becauseshe took the opportunity to have sex with him while he was drunk.

Maria blushed. "Of course. You were very happy every time Miss Brooks kissed you. Once you were injured, you always tricked Miss Brooks into kissing you, saying it wouldn't hurt if she did. Miss Brooks believed it, and I was so embarrassed watching it."

"Thank you." Joseph thanked Maria and let her go.

Joseph didn't remember any of what Maria said, but he knew that it was probably all true as what Noah had said.

Joseph had forgotten that he once deeply loved a woman named Cassie three years ago. His mind was filled with all the bad memories about her.

No wonder, when Cassie came back three years later, Joseph loved every dish she made. Cassie knew exactly what Joseph liked to eat.

Even in bed, Cassie knew what positions Joseph liked, as she had loved him.

However, Joseph had forgotten while loving her. Not only did he forget, but Joseph also got together with Megan, forcing Cassie to divorce and even making Cassie publicly announce that their divorce was mutual.

Joseph repeatedly protected Megan, locked Cassie up, pushed Cassie down, and even caused her abortion.

Joseph also hurt Cassie's most cherished friends and used Aiden's illness to threaten Cassie.

Finally, Cassie came back.

Joseph cut off Spencer's finger for Megan and almost locked Cassie in the dungeon.

If Cassie hadn't been smart and found evidence to clear her name, Joseph might still see Cassie as a villain.

Joseph didn't deserve to love Cassie.

Joseph hurt Cassie so much, and last time, he even tricked Cassie into going to an island.

Joseph could no longer control his tears.

For the first time in his life, Joseph cried so desperately.

Joseph had hurt the Cassie who once loved him deeply, while carefully protecting Megan, who had ruined everything for him, even giving her 1.4 billion dollars out of guilt after they broke up.

Joseph always thought he was smart, but now he realized he was a fool.

He was completely played by Megan.

Joseph wished he could kill Megan right now.

In the evening, Noah ordered the drinks and waited for Joseph in the club's box, but Joseph didn't show up until nine o'clock.

Joseph appeared with a pale face, looking very dejected.

"Come on. Cheer yourself up." Noah felt very uncomfortable seeing Joseph like this.
