Chapter 1377 "Your husband is so nice."
Laura let out a big sigh, "Man, I hardly ever come back to Silverwood. Just wanna chill, not deal with any high school reunion drama. Oh, is this your kid? He’s got your looks for sure."
"Hey, bud, say hi to Laura," Lily nudged. "This is my son. Didn't wanna drag him out, but no one was home to watch him today."
"Hi, Laura," the little guy grinned, though he was squirming a bit, only staying put 'cause Lily had a firm grip on him.
Laura felt a bit uneasy; having a kid around made it tough to shop and chat.
Just then, Lily's eyes sparkled as she looked past Laura. "Whoa, there's a dude behind you, and he's like, super hot, even better than those movie stars."
Laura spun around, surprised, to see Michael strolling up with a bottle of water.
"Hey babe, here's the water you wanted." He even had the cap off already.
Lily's jaw dropped, and she blurted out, "Are you cheating on Michael?"
Laura was floored by her outburst.
Michael's lips twitched in amusement.
Realizing she’d put her foot in her mouth, Lily quickly added, "I get it, though. He's so dreamy. If it were me, I might not be able to resist either."
Michael shot Laura a look and said, "Let me set the record straight. I'm her husband, Michael."
Lily was stunned.
This was Michael?
Lily had seen pics of Michael online, but they were all grainy paparazzi shots. In person, he looked like a top-tier celeb, all cool and classy, like he belonged on a magazine cover.
This was Michael?
Michael was so good-looking that Lily, as a woman, felt a bit self-conscious.
Laura got where Lily was coming from. Michael was so stunning, it was hard to believe he was over thirty.
Laura couldn't figure out why Michael, who hung out with Joseph and Lucas, dressed so differently. Joseph and Lucas were always sharp, but Michael was more laid-back.
"So, you're Michael. Nice to meet you," Lily said awkwardly, feeling the tension. She just wanted a simple hangout with an old friend. "Laura, why'd you bring Michael along? You should've given me a heads-up."
"Well, you can have him help watch your kid," Laura said, linking arms with Lily and giving Michael a casual glance.
Michael looked at the little boy, who blinked back at him. The kid thought Michael was cool and would probably be a fun buddy.
"Alright, I'll watch him. Consider it practice for handling an older kid."
Michael wasn't thrilled, but he didn't have much choice.
He trailed behind with the little boy.
Laura and Lily walked ahead, chatting away.
Lily kept glancing back, initially worried about her son, but was surprised to see Michael holding her son and chatting with him.
"Is that really Michael?" Lily asked, still in disbelief.
"Yep," Laura shrugged helplessly. "Do I seem like the type to cheat while still married?"
"You didn't tell me you were bringing Michael. How was I supposed to know? And I've never met him before," Lily whispered. "Besides, he's so hot. I remember you saying Michael was in his thirties, like an old dude."
"Thirty-something is old, right? I'm still in my twenties," Laura said shamelessly. "He just looks young."
"Come on, look at my husband. He's the same age as me but looks like he's in his forties, and he's packed on the pounds over the years," Lily sighed. "If I had known, I wouldn't have tied the knot right after college. Your hubby is way more handsome."
"Yeah, but can good looks pay the bills?" Laura shot back.
Lily blinked, "Of course. Otherwise, why did you fall for Benjamin, and Benjamin isn't even as good-looking as Michael."
Laura went quiet.
Alright, she did care about looks.
"I'm so jealous of you," Lily continued wistfully.
Laura had to admit, Michael did make Lily envious.
After all, everyone has a bit of vanity, and Laura was no exception.
"Let's go check out that store," Laura said, dragging Lily inside.
Michael was amazed by the patience and thoroughness women show when shopping, as they spent almost half an hour trying on clothes in one store.
Lily's son was quite a handful.
Michael missed Maeve.
Having a daughter was better; sons were too much trouble. When Laura came out after trying on clothes, still undecided about which one looked best, the sales assistant smiled and said, "You don't need to decide. Your husband has already paid for all the clothes you tried on."
Laura was stunned and couldn't help but glance at Michael, who was playing with the kid on the sofa.
Lily covered her mouth, laughing quietly, "Laura, your husband is so sweet."
The sales assistant added with a smile, "And your friend's clothes too. Your husband said it was to thank her for accompanying you shopping."
Lily was shocked and quickly said, "That's not necessary. I can pay for my own clothes."
Laura hadn't expected Michael to be so considerate, but she had to admit he completely satisfied her vanity. "It's fine. We haven't seen each other in ages, and I missed your birthday in Silverwood. Consider it a belated birthday gift."
"Alright, but you need to tell your husband not to buy anything else for me," Lily said.
"Come on, we're friends. It's no big deal."
Since there were too many clothes, Laura filled out an address form and had the store deliver them directly.
From then on, whenever Laura liked something, Michael would pay for it as soon as she tried it on.
Laura even fancied a $400,000 ring. As soon as she put it on and Lily complimented it, Michael paid for it.
The entire first-floor sales staff was stunned.
"Wow, you guys hit the jackpot. No more sales needed this week."
"Exactly, I've never met someone so generous. That must be her husband. He's so handsome, rich, and generous."
