Chapter 747

Megan was taken aback but still tried to maintain a smile on her face. "How could I? Children are pure and lovely, just like little angels. I really like them."
Joseph tightened his sharp, thin lips.
Megan held his hand and looked down. "Joseph, I know my mistake last night made you unhappy, but isn't this the first time I've been at a loss with children? I promise it won't happen again in the future. Next time, bring Sophia over to play more, and I can practice taking care of children."
If Sophia dared to tell Joseph about what happened yesterday, she would have a thousand ways to teach Sophia a lesson in secrets. Even if it meant death, she could make sure Sophia's death had nothing to do with Megan.
"Practice?" Joseph frowned. "She's a child; a little carelessness could lead to injury; even a fishbone or a seed could take her life."
Megan's face turned pale as she hurriedly explained, "That's not what I meant. I will be very careful, and I will never let such a thing happen again."
"Megan, I don't think you're ready to have a child just yet," Joseph abruptly cut her off.
"Why, just because I didn't take care of Sophia well last night?" Megan was so anxious she was almost in tears. "Joseph, don't you think you've been too biased recently? She's Liam's child, not yours. Yes, I admit I didn't do well, but you can't deprive me of my right to be a mother. I will definitely take care of my child seriously."
"Megan, why threaten a child not to ruin our relationship?" Joseph was already uncomfortable, and her tears pushed him over the edge. "Just because she's not my child, you tell her that her uncle and her father are not getting along? She's just a little girl. In the future, I will have children, and if she ruins our relationship, will you make me dislike her?"
Megan was stunned. After threatening Sophia last night, seeing her scared and silent, she thought she had already threatened her. After all, she was so young that most children hadn't even developed clear language skills. But Sophia turned around and told Joseph.
Joseph continued to accuse, "Just because she wet your clothes, you pushed her to the ground, made her bathe alone while you played on your phone. Megan, you're not just impatient; you simply don't like children, and you lack compassion."
Unlike Cassie, who would whip up nutritious breakfasts and desserts for children, comb her hair, and brush her teeth. She even leaves the bathroom door ajar out of concern for the child.
The more Joseph sized things up, the more he realized Cassie was a cut above the rest. Back then, he even wanted Megan to take care of the twins Cassie gave birth to, thinking she would take good care of them. But the reality was that she threatened a child who was over two years old. What about younger children?
He didn't dare to ponder further.
Megan's lips trembled. For the first time in over three years, Joseph looked at her with such disappointment and anger.
A sense of unease washed over her. Tears of guilt streamed down her face. "I'm sorry, I couldn't help it. I didn't mean to. Yesterday, when I took Sophia to bathe, she kept saying she was cold and then hot. It took a long time to settle her down. I thought the water temperature was fine, but she made me lose my patience, and that's why I threatened her. Because I saw some of my colleagues handle their children this way, but I had no ill intentions. I just felt that Sophia didn't like me."
"But you have to think that Sophia just lost her mother." Joseph was too tired to argue with her anymore. "In any case, children are not dogs or cats. If you want to have children, you should take good care of them. Many things need to be done personally. You can't rely on nannies for everything. Children are not born for nannies. How do you know if a nanny will treat her well?"
Just like him, who was once abused by a nanny. So, he was more certain that his child should grow up under the care of parents.
