Chapter 181
"5:30 PM.
Cassie headed downstairs and got into the white sedan.
Joseph was in the car reviewing documents. From the side, his eyelashes appeared long and curled, even the way he held the documents was somehow alluring, fingers well-defined. No matter which angle, he looked irresistibly attractive.
Cassie always had an eye for appearances.
Otherwise, she wouldn't have been with Arthur Lewis in the first place; he was counted among Madison's finest lookers. But next to Joseph, Arthur's charm and looks somehow fell short.
No wonder she'd grown more and more disinterested in Arthur, to the point where even David couldn't stir her heart when standing right in front of her.
""Joey, why aren't you looking at me? Don't you miss me?"" Cassie leaned in and wrapped an arm around him, cooing.
""I'm looking at the case,"" Joseph glanced at her as she walked in, shedding her wool coat to reveal a form-fitting undershirt. His eyes darkened, momentarily losing interest in the file in front of him.
""Oh, my bad, I didn't mean to interrupt you. Carry on,"" Cassie suddenly grew sheepish.
Joseph said nothing. How could he continue working now that he's been disturbed?
Giving up on the paperwork, he lifted her onto his lap, but at five-foot-six, her head instantly bumped against the car’s ceiling.
The car is too short.
Squinting, Joseph stated matter-of-factly, ""Time to get a new ride.""
Walter promptly inquired, ""Mr. Hernandez, what kind of car would you like?""
""Just need something with more headroom in the back. I'll handle it tomorrow.""
Cassie was speechless. Rich bosses really live on another level - choosing to change a car just because it’s inconvenient to hug his girlfriend? Impressive. She found herself liking him more and more.
""What do you want for dinner?"" Joseph asked her.
""It's getting chilly. I'm in the mood for beef stew. I know a place that does it well,"" Cassie answered.
At the beef stew restaurant, Cassie invited Walter to join them, but Joseph cut in, ""He can eat somewhere else.""
It was a rare date night; no need for an extra wheel.
Walter nodded hastily, ""Yeah, I'm not big on beef stew. I'll grab something next door. Take your time, no rush.""
He made a quick exit, and Cassie cast a sympathetic glance his way.
Joseph took his seat first, and as Cassie moved to sit across from him, he frowned, ""Sit next to me. I don’t bite.""
Cassie paused, ""But we ate together last time.""
""Last time?"" Joseph’s handsome face clouded over, ""Are you kidding? My stomach was in knots for three days. And why didn't you check on me? You clearly care.""
Cassie nearly choked on her tea. She hadn't cared that day, which was why she stayed away, but things were different now. Innocently, she said, ""I was afraid I might cave if I got too close to you.""
Pleased with her response, Joseph pulled her to sit beside him, ""You'll feed me later.""
Cassie felt overwhelmed as she glanced at another couple nearby.
The man kept offering his girlfriend choices, ""Babe, what do you want to eat?""
""Try this, sweetie, it's delicious.""
""Honey, have a taste of this, it's amazing.""
