Chapter 310

"Nobody noticed that Liam, who was just about to return to his room, caught a glimpse of Cassie leaving Joseph's quarters.

He smirked, and suddenly, everything clicked into place.

Rosalind escorted her to the main house through a side door, as her disappearance had drawn both the Hernandez and Leo families together; even Walter and Mildred had shown up.

Upon sighting her return, Vera rushed over, fraught with worry. ""Cassie, how could you disappear without a word? You weren't answering your phone; we've been looking for you everywhere.""

Her words induced several disapproving glares; everyone felt Cassie had been inconsiderate.

""Hey, you've changed clothes,"" Celeste remarked suddenly.

Blinking back, Cassie responded with a hint of distress, ""I was out for a walk and accidentally fell into the pool. Rosalind noticed my drenched clothes and brought me to her place to change and dry my hair. My phone got waterlogged, too, so it wasn't working.""

After pausing briefly, she added apologetically, ""I'm so sorry; Everyone was occupied, so I didn't want to disturb anybody.""

""Is that so?"" Mildred turned to Rosalind, whose decades of service in the Hernandez family made her a trusted figure.

""It's true,"" Rosalind confirmed with a smile.

""Alright then. She's safe, and that's what counts. Let's break it up."" Mildred massaged her temples, weary from the commotion.

Leo was also ready to leave. ""We appreciate your patience tonight; we'll be on our way.""
After the Chapmans left, Celeste was acting peculiarly. She had orchestrated Cassie's fall into the pool, yet somehow, Rosalind claimed it was an accidental drop.
Who had Rosalind spinning that tale?
And who would want to help Cassie?
Right then, Richard, all smiles, sauntered over to her. ""Cuz, best stay out of the Chapman business. Stirring trouble with outsiders in the Hernandez clan, you might not be welcomed back if grandma and grandpa get wind of it.""
Celeste jumped, glaring at Richard. ""Did you help her?""
Richard merely shrugged, neither confirming nor denying. ""What if I tell Mom and Dad about tonight's incident? How do you think that'll pan out?""
Anguish flooded Celeste; she shivered at the thought of her brother and sister-in-law's uproar over her scheming against their son.
...
The car pulled up to the Chapman's villa.
Stepping out, Luna complained, ""Could you please let us know next time you decide to step out? You left without a word. Grandpa and Mildred were visibly upset.""
Cassie remained silent until they entered the living room, then she turned to Leo. ""Dad, I was lured out tonight by a Hernandez's servant claiming grandma wanted to see me. She led me to the pool and pushed me into the water while I was distracted. Richard was there soaking, and thankfully, we knew each other from before. He didn't harm me and even helped me hide.""
""What?"" Leo was startled. ""Why didn't you tell me this before?""
Luna gasped, covering her mouth, ""Impossible. Did Richard help you? That notorious rogue? He pounces on any lady in sight; you haven't been...?""
Mid-sentence, worry etched Leo's face. ""Cassie, you...?""
""Dad, rest assured, I'm fine. I'd barely hit the water when, coincidentally, Aunt Vera came looking for me with Celeste, Juliette, and others,"" Cassie said with a half smile, casting a glance at Vera. ""They couldn't find me near the pool, so they assumed I was missing, which sent the entire Hernandez family on a search.""
