Chapter 1392 Lucas, why don't you come down?
Laura felt a little touched. After a beat, she said, "Hey, I've got a party tonight. Wanna come?"
"Absolutely." Michael's eyes sparkled, and he nodded.
Downstairs.
Bernice called the driver, who said he was stuck in traffic and would take more than ten minutes to get there, asking her to hang tight.
After she hung up, a tall figure suddenly loomed over her from behind. Lucas's lazy voice drifted down, "Where you headed? I can give you a lift."
"No need. The driver will be here soon," Bernice took a step back, keeping it polite but firm.
Lucas eyed her with a smirk. Today, she was rocking a white knitted sweater and blue jeans, looking all casual and chill, unlike the other actresses who always dressed like they were hitting a red carpet. They looked good but were just eye candy. Bernice was different—tall, with a good vibe and a delicate, beautiful face. She had that star glow no matter what she wore.
"Bernice, how many times have you turned me down?" Lucas put one hand in his pocket, his handsome face both wicked and playful. "My patience is running thin."
"I really don't want to date," Bernice said politely. "I'm just focusing on my work."
"I know," Lucas pulled out a lighter and a pack of cigarettes. "You don't want to date or get hitched."
Bernice's face shifted slightly. She had said that upstairs, thinking only Michael and Joseph had overheard. She didn't expect Lucas to catch it too. "Didn't think someone like you would eavesdrop."
"Michael and Joseph are big shots too. Weren't they eavesdropping as well?" Lucas gave her a half-smile. "But this is a first for me. Maybe I just want to get inside your head."
Bernice was quiet for a moment, then said, "That's how I really feel."
Lucas nodded. "That's cool. I'm on the same page. We're pretty like-minded. But I have needs. Let me sleep with you."
"I'm afraid of catching something," Bernice said mockingly.
Lucas didn't get mad. Maybe he had been provoked by her too many times, and his tolerance had improved. "Don't worry, I'm a doctor. I'm probably more careful about this than you. If you're really worried, I can get a health report for you."
Facing such a patient Lucas, Bernice had to look up at his handsome face.
Honestly, the more she dealt with Lucas, the more she felt his sleaziness.
Lucas also looked down at her. Her eyes were calm and indifferent.
He was surprised. He had met countless women, but he really couldn't figure Bernice out.
But he couldn't deny that the more she pushed him away, the more curious he got.
"Bernice, let me sleep with you. Maybe I'll find out you're just ordinary," Lucas lightly brushed her cheek with his cigarette. "Why make it a big deal? It's not like you're a virgin."
Bernice snickered, her eyes turning icy. "Maybe it's because I've been through the wringer that being played by guys like you feels so gross. I'm not some cheap fling."
"It's not like you haven't sold yourself before," Lucas shot back.
"You're wrong. I did it out of love," even though she was no longer the real Bernice but Nina, she wouldn't let anyone trash her friend's name. "I fell for a bad guy and got duped. It's different."
"That's just your take," Lucas smirked. "Bernice, you know, I haven't had you yet. I won't be satisfied until I do. You've got me hooked. Usually, I get bored after a few rounds."
"Who knows? What if you get addicted? I don't do the mistress thing," Bernice paused. "And I don't share lovers with my friends."
Lucas's face darkened. "Can you stop bringing up Nina?"
"She meant a lot to me," Bernice closed her eyes. "She's gone now—died innocent, wronged, and you had a hand in it, Mr. Nelson. I don't expect you to feel guilty, but can you show a little decency? Since you caused her death, could you at least not hurt her friends?”
"Shut up." Lucas suddenly grabbed her chin, his eyes cold. "Who told you all this?"
"Everyone knows. The cops already spilled the details of Nina's case," Bernice looked up and snickered. "Your lawyer handled that case, right? Do you remember her desperate eyes when she was taken away?"
Lucas's heart trembled, and he pushed her away. "Get lost."
Bernice left immediately, not even waiting for the car.
Lucas stood there, smoking.
Sometimes, Lucas got scared when he thought of Nina.
He often dreamed of Nina in the middle of the night, calling from hell, "Lucas, why don't you come down? Come down and keep me company."
Since it had come to this, he didn't mind becoming a devil and dragging everyone into hell.
After all, he was a heartless devil.
"Lucas, what are you doing here?" Michael came out of the elevator and saw the desolate and cold Lucas, feeling a bit scared.
Michael walked up and patted his shoulder. "Did you go after Bernice just now?"
Lucas didn't speak, just smoked fiercely.
"Lucas, you really need a girlfriend," Michael stared at him. "But Bernice might not be right for you. She's tight with Cassie and Laura. If you mess with her, Joseph and I won't have it easy. Maybe you should find someone else."
"Do you still remember Nina?" Lucas suddenly asked.
Michael was stunned, speechless, feeling a bit guilty. "It wasn't just your fault. We all had a part in it."
"Yeah, we were all wrong. But you and I are different. I was the one who sent her to prison," Lucas said, then got in his car and left.
Michael stood there for a long time, feeling very uncomfortable.
The Zenith Family was scattered, everyone dead. There was no chance for redemption; even Nina's body couldn't be found.
