Chapter 524

Half an hour into the movie, the shrill ring of a phone pierced the quiet atmosphere. Joseph, the owner of the offending device, quickly pulled it out and glanced at the screen. Cassie, sitting next to him, managed to catch a glimpse of the caller ID - a certain "Nyasia."

"I need to take this," Joseph murmured, his voice barely above a whisper as he rose from his seat and headed for the exit. "Is something amiss?" he asked, concern lacing his words.

"Can't I just call you without a reason?" came the melancholic voice of Megan from the other end.

Caught off guard, Joseph stuttered, "I... I didn't mean..."

A soft chuckle echoed through the line. "I'm just teasing you, Joseph. I've been researching your condition and have formulated a treatment plan. We should start tonight."

"Tonight?" Joseph echoed, surprise evident in his voice.

"Yes, there are thirty sessions in total, all scheduled at different times. The nighttime atmosphere can be quite somber, which might help you relax and express your true feelings. The longer we delay, the harder it will be to treat. Tonight is the best time."

Joseph hesitated, his brow furrowing in thought. "I'm sorry, I have plans tonight..."

"Are you spending time with your wife? I apologize..." Megan's voice faltered. "I forgot you're a married man now."

Joseph responded, "It's alright, we can start tomorrow night."

"Okay," Megan agreed, a bitter smile audible in her voice. "I must admit, I'm a bit envious of your wife."

Joseph was taken aback, his expression a complex mix of emotions. Megan had once been his potential life partner, but circumstances had changed. Before he could respond, Megan ended the call with a curt "goodbye."

Joseph stood still for a moment, then returned to the theater. Cassie looked up at him, curiosity in her eyes. "Did you find Nyasia's psychologist?"

"Yes, she believes I can improve." Joseph wrapped his arms around Cassie.

"Is the psychologist male or female?" Cassie asked, a hint of hesitation in her voice.

Joseph raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk on his face. "Are you jealous again? Honey, you need to trust me. Right now, you and our baby are the only ones in my heart."

Before Cassie could protest, Joseph leaned in and kissed her passionately. Cassie tried to resist, but it had been so long since she had experienced such fervor from Joseph. The kiss seemed to last an eternity, and when they finally broke apart, Joseph held her close.

After the movie, Joseph carried Cassie upstairs and settled next to her on the bed, reading a picture book to the baby growing in her womb. His deep, melodious voice slowly lulled Cassie into a peaceful slumber, a welcome relief from her recent bouts of insomnia.

The following day, Joseph was roused from his sleep by a call from Michael. "Joseph, Megan had too much to drink last night. I had to take her home."

Joseph remained silent, processing the information.

"I think it's because of you," Michael said, irritation seeping into his voice. "She kept mumbling your name and crying."

Joseph's brow furrowed as he recalled his strange conversation with Megan the previous night. He wasn't oblivious to her feelings. "Michael, I'm married... If you care for her, you should make her happy yourself instead of expecting someone else to do it."

Michael was taken aback, a bitter smile creeping onto his face. "Megan thinks we're just friends."

"Why not give it a shot? I have a family now. It's not fair to Megan," Joseph suggested.

Michael remained silent for a long time. Meanwhile, Joseph changed his clothes and went to check on Cassie.
