Chapter 1115 If You Kiss Me, I Won't Feel the Pain Anymore.
Cassie's eyes suddenly stung, and she tried to hold back, but they still turned red.
"Joseph, are you out of your mind?" she snapped, losing control.
Joseph saw her red eyes and felt a strange comfort. A smile crept onto his lips. "You're feeling sorry for me."
Cassie fumed, thinking, 'He's in this state and still talking about feeling sorry for me. Is that the point?'
"Cassie, I'm really happy. Cutting my hand was worth it," Joseph said softly. "If I'd known, I would've done it sooner."
"Joseph," Cassie choked out.
"Cassie, don't say anything. Just listen." Joseph covered her mouth with his uninjured hand. "You once told me you saw Spencer as family. If I cut off his hand, we'd never have a chance. But I was crazy at that time and did it beacause I was jealous of him. Seeing how important he was to you made me uncomfortable. I was wrong. Even though you agreed to get back together, I know it was for Oliver and Sophia. You rarely call or text me, or even ask me out. There's a barrier between us—Nina and Spencer. I might not be able to make it up to Nina, but I must make it up to Spencer. Otherwise, even if we get back together, we can never go back to how we were."
He hugged Cassie tightly.
"Cassie, my memories are a mess. I don't remember much, but after you came back, we dated for a bit. It was brief, but unforgettable. Even though I knew you were seeking revenge, I was happy. I'm too silly to cherish you. Can you give me another chance?" He looked at her deeply, hopeful.
Cassie didn't say anything. She just intertwined her fingers with his injured hand, tears falling uncontrollably.
"Cassie, I never thought I'd see you cry for me." Joseph kissed her tears. "Aren't tears supposed to be salty? Why do yours taste sweet?"
Cassie was about to cry harder but laughed through her tears at his words.
She instinctively hit him.
Joseph gasped in pain.
Cassie said nervously, "Don't pretend. I hit your chest, not your wound."
"The body shakes, and the wound hurts too," Joseph said with a bitter smile.
Cassie frowned. Just when Joseph thought he'd get some warm care, she said, "You're really weak. When Spencer was seriously injured and lost his fingers, he didn't even cry out in pain when I took him to the hospital."
Feeling belittled, Joseph immediately felt indignant. "I was joking. It doesn't hurt. If you don't believe me, press hard on my wound."
He raised his hand, looking ready to go all out.
Cassie found his behavior childish, even a bit cute. He looked like someone any woman would feel sorry for.
"Really? Then let me try." Cassie reached out as if to press down, but noticed Joseph quickly closing his eyes, his long eyelashes trembling, and his temples tensing up.
She smiled, lowered her hand, and stood on tiptoe to kiss him.
Joseph was stunned. Instead of the pain he expected, he felt Cassie's lips.
"Open your mouth," Cassie whispered.
Joseph felt his heart melt, thinking, 'Isn't that usually something a guy says? But from Cassie, it's even more enticing.'
He hugged her tightly and deepened the kiss.
He had kissed her before, but this time was different. She responded passionately, making his blood boil.
When he wanted to take it further, Cassie grabbed his hand.
"Cassie," Joseph's voice was husky.
"Joey, don't get too excited. Didn't you just say body movement would hurt? Look at how you're trembling now," Cassie teased.
Joseph felt frustrated. If he had known, he wouldn't have said that earlier. "If you kiss me, I won't feel the pain."
"Stop it." Cassie rolled her eyes at him.
Her playful look made Joseph even more restless. "Cassie, it sounds so nice when you call me Joey. Did you used to call me that? It feels familiar."
"Yes." Cassie lowered her eyes, not wanting him to feel familiar.
She was afraid if he remembered, he might become a fool again.
"Did you get an anti-inflammatory shot for this?" she asked.
"I had an IV drip at dawn, but the doctor said I need it for at least three days," Joseph answered.
"Will it be inconvenient for you to work, like typing?" Cassie asked. Unlike Spencer, who didn't need to use a computer much, Joseph, as a CEO, often needed to use a mouse or type.
"I'll get used to it slowly," Joseph said with a smile, "Compared to you, these are nothing. Even losing a hand doesn't matter."
"That's not okay," Cassie interrupted seriously, "If you lose a hand, I'll reject you."
Joseph felt helpless.
He was saying sweet words, and she was so heartless in pouring cold water on him.
"I like handsome men," Cassie added.
Joseph almost wanted to rush to the bathroom mirror to check for fine lines or anything.
"Cassie, do you think I should use some face masks or something?" Joseph asked, "Can you recommend some for me?"
Cassie looked at his nervous expression and laughed. "It's okay. You still look quite young now, but try not to stay up late. You already have dark circles."
"To avoid being abandoned by you, I definitely won't stay up late anymore," Joseph said, feeling scared. After all, he was much older than Cassie.
