Chapter 482
Jolted back to the present, Mabel hastily dialed Marcus's number. "Marcus, could you temporarily return that six billion to me? I've already discussed the Chamberlain matter with my father—he's assured me he'll handle Joseph..."
"I'm sorry, darling, but I've already passed the money on to Felix," Marcus replied, a note of resignation in his voice. "Felix has just forwarded the funds to the Hernandez Corporation."
Silence hung heavy in the air.
Mabel's complexion drained of color, a lump forming in her throat.
"But don't fret, darling, Joseph can cover for you," Marcus chuckled. "Thank you for doing such a tremendous favor for the Chamberlain family. I love you."
Once upon a time, these words might have stirred Mabel's heart, but now they left her cold. "Marcus, as far as I know, the Chamberlain family has been flourishing these past years. Surely you have at least eight hundred million?"
"My parents claim they don't," Marcus responded. "And they wouldn't lie to me."
Mabel felt a flicker of relief, convincing herself that Marcus, too, had been duped by his own family. He couldn't possibly be deceiving her.
...
In the executive suite.
After ending the call, Marcus's refined demeanor instantly morphed into a sneer of disdain and indifference.
He flung his phone aside without a care.
Felix, grinning obsequiously, said, "Uncle, Mabel's quite the fool, isn't she? It worked out splendidly, given my reluctance to hand money over to Joseph. She's practically gifted us six hundred million, haha! Imagine Joseph's fury when he discovers we're paying Hernandez with his mother's money."
"She's beginning to suspect something," Marcus noted, his tone icy.
"It doesn't matter. Nothing can hinder the Chamberlain's ascent to power now," Felix smirked. "Uncle, you're remarkable. You've single-handedly fueled our family's growth."
"Indeed... ensure you marry Luna soon. Only marriage can solidify the bond between our families," Marcus instructed.
"I will. Bit by bit, I'll consume Leo's Group, and eventually, the Madison pyramid will be ours, the Chamberlains," Felix mused, his eyes gleaming with anticipation.
"Exactly. Joseph won't be able to resist much longer."
Marcus's eyes narrowed in contemplation.

That night.
At an upscale spa.
Cassie, her body half-submerged in a luxurious milk bath, commented, "This place is truly exquisite; it's my first visit," her eyes half-closed in relaxation.
After a moment, she glanced at Nina, who was gingerly stepping into the water. "Wow, who would have guessed you were so voluptuous beneath those clothes," Cassie exclaimed.
A blush instantly colored Nina's typically cool and composed face, taking Cassie aback.
Suddenly, a woman's voice drifted over from the other side of the wall.
"Joyce Ray, I've heard this place is incredibly pricey. How can you afford to bring us here now?"
"I understand, Joseph must have given it to you, right?"
Joyce Ray blushed, slightly embarrassed as she replied, "Joseph is very generous. Even though I no longer care for him, he gave me this credit card and told me I could use it for anything I desired."
"Wow, I'm so envious. He must be completely smitten with you."
"A caretaker and her wealthy client—it's like a plot from a romance novel. Honestly, you're far more attractive than that Cassie. Who knows, you might even become Mrs. Hernandez one day."
