Chapter 773
"Not us, it's me," Joseph pinched his brow, his narrow eyes filled with deep helplessness. "I'm sorry, Megan, I think we might need a break."
Megan was shocked. She couldn't believe it.
Didn't Joseph just say he didn't want to continue this? Why did he suddenly want to leave?
No, she couldn't let Joseph go.
She grabbed Joseph's hand. "Joseph, don't go, please. What do you need for forgiveness? Just tell me. I'm willing to do anything."
"Megan, don't do this," Joseph tried to push Megan's hand away.
Megan cried uncontrollably, tears streaming down her face. "If you need space, you can stay here. I won't bother you. Joseph, everyone in Whisperlyn City now sees me as a joke. If you suddenly leave, what will they think of me? They'll think I'm immoral. I'll have no self-respect left. If you don't want me, I'd rather die!""
"Megan, are you threatening me?"
Joseph's tone was helpless and cold. His tall figure exuded a terrifying presence, causing Megan to feel frightened involuntarily.
Megan instinctively flinched, shaking her head.
"No, Joseph, can't we sit down and talk calmly? We've known each other for twenty years. Our relationship of over a decade has endured so many hardships to get to where we are today."
Joseph gazed at Megan in confusion, "Megan, I've been reflecting on things these past few days. I never thought you were seeing someone else; that's on me. But my inability to be physically close to you created a wedge between us. Every woman has her needs, needs that I couldn't meet for you. I've forgiven you, but I can't just ignore what happened. Do you understand?""
The idea of Rex being with many other women, and possibly with Megan multiple times, made Joseph feel repulsed at the thought of being intimate with her.
Let alone lifelong discussion.
"What do you mean?" Megan became hysterical, "So you think I'm impure!"
"Megan, aren't you tired? Every time we argue, you bring this up." Joseph's face showed deep bitterness. "If I believed you were impure, I wouldn't have been with you in the first place."
"Then why are you leaving?" Megan pleaded, "Joseph, don't go. I'll tell you everything in the future; I won't hide anything from you. I'll change whatever you don't like. Please, can't we work this out?"
"Megan, I'm sorry, I'm tired."
Joseph forcefully pushed Megan's hand away, grabbed his things, and left without glancing back.
Megan broke down, grabbing Joseph's suitcase. "You said it's just to cool off. You'll come back. I won't let you take your things away. Joseph, I admit I was wrong, but you were with Cassie too. You betrayed our relationship. I can forgive you. Why can't you forgive me?"
Seeing Megan still holding onto the luggage, crying and annoying him, Joseph decided to leave without even taking his things.
Joseph didn't understand how things had escalated to this point with Megan.
The Megan in his memories was a source of comfort whenever he felt tired and lonely. However, the present Megan made him uneasy; being around her made him inexplicably weary.
As Joseph walked out of Seaside Haven, he felt guilty but also a sense of relief.
Nathaniel drove up. Joseph got in, lit a cigarette, and asked in a daze, "Nathaniel, am I really someone who can't be faithful in relationships?"
