Chapter 1114 No! It's Terrifying

Spencer, sipping his coffee, almost threw up.

He quickly noticed Joseph's bandaged hand, eyes wide. "Mr. Hernandez, what are you doing?"

"Paying you back. Didn't I say I would?" Joseph replied calmly, like it was no big deal.

Spencer was stunned. After processing it, he looked at Joseph with a bit of admiration.

He had thought Joseph was all talk. Even if the Hernandez family had fallen, Joseph still had his pride. How could he sacrifice a finger for a subordinate?

But Joseph had done it.

"Mr. Hernandez, I get why you're doing this, but I still admire you. You're the first person I admire," Spencer said sincerely.

"I don't want to owe anyone, especially you. Even though you were just protecting Cassie, I know you kept her, Sophia, and Oliver safe all these years," Joseph said, gently rubbing his wound. It hurt, but at least he didn't feel guilty in front of Spencer anymore.

Spencer raised an eyebrow. "Just don't repeat past mistakes. I hope Cassie finds real happiness this time. She's had it tough."

With that, he tossed the severed finger back. "You keep it. I don't collect fingers."

After leaving, Spencer headed straight to the Peace Group to find Cassie.

She had just finished a meeting with some executives. As she came out, she saw Spencer leaning against the wall, hands in his pockets, looking cool and drawing glances from female employees.

"You and Peter are both so handsome. Why do you have to like men?" Cassie always felt it was a pity. "No wonder women have a hard time finding men. They have to compete with both women and men."

"If you feel bad for them, why not share Joseph?" Spencer said with a playful smirk.

Cassie rolled her eyes. "I'd be happy to, but Joseph probably wouldn't agree."

Spencer looked at her seriously for a few seconds. "You don't know yet?"

"Know what?" Cassie asked, puzzled.

"He hasn't told you?" Spencer realized.

"Told me what?" Cassie thought back to their earlier conversation, her face darkening. "Don't tell me Joseph cheated again."

"What do you mean 'again'? He was under Megan's hypnosis before; it wasn't really cheating," Spencer said, surprising Cassie.

"You're actually defending Joseph. Don't you hate him?"

"I'm not narrow-minded," Spencer said, looking at her with a complex expression. "Besides, he's already paid me back."

Cassie was more confused.

Spencer raised his hand, showing a missing finger. "This morning, Joseph gave me his finger."

Cassie was stunned.

"He cut off one of his own fingers," Spencer clarified. "Did you say something to him yesterday? He suddenly did it, and I was quite shocked."

"Yesterday?" Cassie remembered their barbecue, where Joseph had mentioned Spencer's finger, which had put her in a bad mood, and she hadn't talked much to Joseph.

She did have a knot in her heart, but she couldn't believe Joseph actually cut off his own finger. She thought he was just bluffing. After all, a finger isn't just a strand of hair.

'Is he an idiot?' she thought.

Seeing her pale face, Spencer sighed. "When you got back with him, I wondered why you chose Joseph. He was fooled by Megan, but now he's sincere. If it weren't for you, he wouldn't have cut off his own finger. He did it to mend things between you two."

Cassie knew why she reconciled with Joseph. It was for Sophia and Oliver, and she was tired of resisting. But she never truly fell for him.

Spencer shrugged. "When you came back, you were dating him for revenge, but I saw you soften. When he cut off my finger, you gave up on him. I had let it go, but you hadn't. You probably felt guilty for not protecting me. I hope this time, you can mend that rift."

He turned to leave but then added, "When I left Joseph's place, he didn't look too good."

Cassie stood there, stunned, until Coco approached. "Ms. Brooks, Charles wants to have lunch with you to discuss some matters."

"I'm not available. I'm taking the day off," Cassie said, handing over the documents and leaving the company.

She drove straight to the Hernandez Group.

When she arrived, she took the elevator to the top floor and kicked open the office door.

Inside, some executives stared at her.

"Cassie, what are you doing here?" Joseph stood up, a hint of joy on his pale face.

"Mr. Hernandez, we'll be leaving now," the executives said, excusing themselves.

As they left, they whispered, "Looks like Mr. Hernandez really has reconciled with Cassie."

"Yeah, the news reported it. It can't be fake."

"I hadn't seen Cassie visit him before. Now I'm sure."

"Do you think I'm deaf? Get out of here," Joseph snapped, closing the door. He then asked gently, "Cassie, did Spencer say something to you?"

"Which hand did you cut? Show me," Cassie demanded.

"No. It's terrifying. I don't want to scare you," Joseph said, shrinking back.

"Joseph," Cassie said, her eyes reddening. "Didn't you think it would scare me when you cut it yourself?"

Joseph hesitated, then obediently extended his hand. Where there should have been five fingers, one was missing, wrapped in thick bandages.
