Chapter 1088 How Do You Want Me to Thank You
During breakfast, Cassie felt a bit awkward, but no one mentioned her not leaving yesterday, as if by tacit agreement.
However, Joseph kept sneezing or coughing while having breakfast.
Mildred said disdainfully, "Have your breakfast somewhere else. Don't infect us."
Joseph looked at everyone's expressions and felt extremely depressed.
He felt so insignificant in this family.
Everyone was avoiding Joseph because of a cold.
But for Oliver and Sophia's sake, he went to eat alone in the living room.
As he turned, he heard Mildred complaining, "Joseph is so young and already so weak. Rosalind, make him some chicken soup tonight."
Joseph almost choked on the porridge he hadn't swallowed yet.
After finally finishing breakfast, Cassie said goodbye to Oliver and Sophia and left.
She didn't drive, so Joseph gave her a ride.
As the car drove away, Cassie saw Oliver and Sophia still standing there, and Sophia was crying. Her heart suddenly ached.
If it weren't for David, Oliver and Sophia wouldn't have to hide here, too scared to even go to kindergarten.
If it weren't for David, she wouldn't have to leave them here and wouldn't be unable to accompany them every day.
For the first time, she felt such hatred for David.
She even hated herself immensely for ever meeting David and getting entangled with him.
She thought to herself, 'What bad thing did I do?'
"Cassie, if you miss Sophia and Oliver, you can come anytime," Joseph saw the sadness in her eyes and comforted, "You can stay here, too; my family welcomes you."
Cassie glanced at him irritably. "Of course, you want me to move in so you can pester me every night."
"Cassie, I just want us to be together, and Oliver and Sophia really miss you." Joseph shrugged innocently. "I understand how you feel. If I were living alone with Oliver and Sophia, it wouldn't be so awkward for you to come. But I have to work during the day, and Oliver and Sophia would be bored at home. With Mildred and Walter around, they are happier."
"I never said it was a bad arrangement." Cassie lowered her head.
A hint of tenderness flashed in Joseph's eyes.
On the way, he wore a mask and occasionally coughed.
When they arrived at the Peace Group parking lot, Cassie unbuckled her seatbelt, ready to get out.
"Wait." Joseph suddenly handed her a document. "This is information I asked Lucas to investigate about the hospital in Silverwood. Three years ago, when David was stabbed while saving you, he bribed the doctors and nurses in the emergency room to deceive you."
Cassie took the document blankly. "What did David deceive me about?"
"He deceived you into thinking his kidney was injured and had to be removed," Joseph looked at her intently. "In fact, his kidney wasn't injured at all. The knife didn't even touch his kidney. He lied to you to gain your guilt and sympathy."
In fact, Cassie wasn't too shocked. Once David's ugly true nature was revealed, she expected more disgusting things to come to light.
David's character was inherently vile. He hadn't become twisted and malicious because she hurt him. He was like this when she met him; he just hid it very well.
"There are CT scans from three years ago showing both kidneys intact, along with records of payments he made to those doctors. Even after moving to Whisperlyn City, to make you believe, he went for regular check-ups every month, and the doctors were bribed. The kidney medication he took was fake, and there's a check-up report from six months ago," Joseph explained.
"You investigated this thoroughly." Cassie was surprised.
"It was not easy to find out. David's company is in the pharmaceutical industry, so it's easy for him to bribe people. Many hospitals are afraid to offend him. However, in the medical field, the Nelson family holds significant influence. If Lucas wants to investigate, nothing can be hidden," Joseph said, "Even though you have evidence of David's infidelity, I suspect he will use the story of losing a kidney for you to sway public opinion in his favor."
"Thank Lucas for me," Cassie said gratefully.
"Just thank Lucas?" Joseph raised an eyebrow with interest and leaned closer. "Shouldn't you thank me too? If it weren't for me, Lucas wouldn't have helped you."
"How do you want me to thank you?" Cassie looked amusedly at his face, half-covered by the mask.
"You could..." Joseph's words were interrupted by a cough, shaking his chest.
Cassie rolled her eyes at him. "You're sick and still not behaving."
Joseph was extremely frustrated. He had planned to ask for a kiss, but he didn't want to infect her. "Cassie, can you kiss me when I get better?"
"When did I agree that thanking you means giving you a kiss?" Cassie looked puzzled.
"But I don't want anything else," Joseph continued.
Cassie suddenly leaned closer, her hand teasingly touching his Adam's apple.
Joseph's Adam's apple moved violently, his eyes burning as he stared at her face. "Cassie, don't do that."
"Is this not okay?" Cassie smiled slyly. "If you want to help me, you shouldn't expect anything in return. If you want a kiss, press your lips, and there's your kiss."
After saying that, she saw his face darken and turned to leave with a smile.
Joseph watched Cassie leave, feeling helpless.
He tugged at his tie and irritably called Lucas, "Did you get in touch with that urologist you mentioned? I want to see him as soon as possible and get treated quickly."
"Why the rush?" Lucas said lazily, "Even if you get treated, it's not like you can use it immediately."
"Who says I can't use it?" Joseph retorted, "Maybe I'll need it tomorrow."
"I bet it'll be a year and a half before you can use it," Lucas said confidently.
