Chapter 1069 David Gave Himself Up
Joseph's face turned sullen on the spot. He knew he shouldn't blame Spencer, but he was so angry that he wanted to punch Spencer.
"Give her to me." Joseph took Cassie into his arms.
As he saw her face swollen even worse than last time, Joseph's eyes narrowed in pain.
'What exactly did David do to her?' Joseph fumed in his mind.
But now was not the time to ask questions; the urgent task was to help her recover.
Joseph carried her to his car.
Cassie was scratching her skin in pain in the back seat.
Joseph gripped the steering wheel tightly. He could feel that she was in much worse condition than last time.
"Cassie, hang in there." He drove into the parking lot and quickly carried her upstairs via the elevator.
Once inside, he lowered his head and deeply kissed her lips.
Her lips were already bitten, and he was afraid of hurting her.
"Cassie, don't worry. I won't hurt you." Joseph carried her into the bedroom.
It wasn't until dawn that Cassie slowly calmed down and fell asleep exhausted in his arms.
Joseph was also very tired, but he didn't dare to sleep. He called Lucas and asked him to come over quickly.
When Lucas saw Cassie asleep on the bed, a shadow of gloom flashed in his eyes. "Did David do this?"
"Spencer and Peter said that David had drugged her and brought her over last night. Check her out. She reacted too violently last night, completely out of her mind. I fear the medication might have side effects. Also, her facial injuries need treatment." Joseph was heartbroken.
In fact, as soon as Joseph sensed that David might target Sophia and Oliver, he wanted to send Joel to protect Cassie.
Considering that David was still hiding, he wouldn't harm her so quickly, so Joseph didn't take action. However,he didn't expect David to act within just two days.
"This requires a blood test." Lucas drew some blood and then examined Cassie."She's very weak, probably due to extreme physical exhaustion. David was too cruel; he must have given her a large dose of drugs, completely disregarding the impact on her body. If the dose had been a bit higher, she might have suffocated to death from heart failure last night," Lucas explained.
Joseph's fists clenched tightly. "Did David do this on purpose?"
"Of course, he doesn't want Cassie dead, but he doesn't want her to have it easy either." Lucas sighed. "It's a good thing you called me over. If left untreated, her heart function would deteriorate in the future."
Joseph was startled.
"Take her to the hospital; she needs an IV," Lucas said, "Her injuries need to be assessed by professionals. If she wants to press charges against David, evidence needs to be collected."
"Okay." Joseph didn't dare to delay any longer. He quickly took Cassie to the Nelson family's private hospital.
Lucas had already arranged a VIP room at the hospital.
However, as soon as he got out of the car with Cassie, a large group of reporters suddenly rushed out of the parking lot, taking pictures of Joseph and Cassie.
"Joseph, we received a tip that you had an affair with Cassie last night. It looks like it's true."
"Of course, look at the hickeys all over Cassie's neck."
"Joseph has them on his neck, too. You guys were pretty intense, but isn't it immoral? Cassie is David's wife."
"What happened to Cassie? Could it be from overexertion last night?"
"Move aside." Joseph was furious at the reporters' comments.
"Why are you so angry? Do you still think you're as noble as you used to be? You and Cassie have an improper relationship, and people can't talk about it, right?"
Joseph shoed, "Shut up. The injuries on her face are all caused by David. If you want an interview, go find him. And by the way, tell him I won't let him off."
"Alright, move aside, don't delay the patient's treatment. The hospital is not a place for your commotion, or I'll have to call security to remove you." Lucas glared at the reporters, protecting Joseph and Cassie as they entered the elevator.
"It must have been David who tipped off these reporters." Joseph's face was extremely grim.
"Yeah. David must have anticipated that Spencer and Peter would bring her to you last night and that you would bring her to my hospital. He is terrifying." Lucas sighed. "He probably feared Cassie would report to the police when she woke up, so he first used the reporters to create solid evidence of your affair with Cassie. Who knows what he'll do next."
"If I were him, I'd go to the police station and turn myself in first," Joseph said thoughtfully.
Lucas was stunned, then nodded. "Given the situation, you can only wait for Cassie to wake up. You don't know the whole story, and acting rashly could make things worse."
Joseph pressed his thin lips together coldly.
At 9 A.M., after the doctor had inserted the IV for Cassie, Nathaniel came in with a phone. "Mr. Hernandez, David gave an interview at the police station at 6 A.M."
"Let me see." Joseph took the phone.
In the video, David looked haggard, his eyes red and swollen, full of regret. "I'm here at the police station to turn myself in because I lost control and hit Cassie last night. I also drugged her."
A reporter asked, "Why did you do that?"
David covered his face. "I couldn't control myself; I was in too much pain. Everyone knows that on our wedding day, Joseph took Cassie away. I tried my best to get her back. I could overlook the past because I love her and just wanted to start over with her. But she could never forget Joseph. She secretly met with him again and again. Even when I went to find her, she had Joseph hiding in the bedroom of her office. She thought I didn't know, but I did. I just wanted to give her a chance. I've never loved a woman like this."
A reporter was surprised. "Cassie betrayed you multiple times during your marriage, right?"
David smiled bitterly. "Yes, the most outrageous time was at Marigold's birthday party a few days ago. She and Joseph had an affair in the bathroom. She thought I didn't know, but someone told me later. Many people knew that night. She treated me like a fool. She went too far."
