Chapter 16 Unwilling to assist others

"Sarah!" Laura called out uncertainly.

Sarah, wearing sunglasses, had a slight stiffening of her smile.

Laura pulled Cassie over, her face darkening. "Didn't you say you were shooting a magazine and had no time?"

Laura glanced at Charlotte and Olivia. "Do you know who they are? One is Cassie's nemesis, and the other stole her boyfriend and her family fortune."

Charlotte stepped forward and gave Laura a hard shove.

Cassie steadied Laura and cast a look of disgust at them. Sarah had deeply disappointed her.

Charlotte, holding Sarah's arm, sneered. "You've lost the Brooks family inheritance, and you're so poor you have to stay in a budget hotel. What right do you still have to be friends with Sarah? She's a hot singer now, and you're just a nobody."

Cassie's eyes widened. She stared straight at Sarah. "You tell me."

Sarah took off her sunglasses and gave a sarcastic look. "Glad you saw it. I'm tired of making excuses to deal with you. Honestly, you don't know your place. Do I have to spell it out and ruin our relationship?"

Cassie looked at her perfectly made-up face and finally saw the truth. They had only befriended her because she was the heir to the Brooks family.

"Sarah, why are you so ungrateful?" Laura said angrily. "Have you forgotten how Charlotte used to bully you? If it weren't for Cassie helping you..."

"Enough, stop bringing up the past," Sarah interrupted nervously. "Laura, let me give you some advice. Cassie will only drag you down. It's better to stay away from her."

"Shut up! Friends are supposed to stick together. Don't you get that, idiot?" Laura shouted.

"Forget it. Let's not talk to them anymore," Cassie said coldly, grabbing Laura's wrist. "We came here to eat, didn't we? Let's go."

Laura glared at them one last time before being pulled inside by Cassie.

Laura cursed, "Cassie, do you think Sarah's lost her mind? You were so good to her. If it weren't for you, Sarah wouldn't be where she is today. Has she forgotten how Charlotte used to bully her?"

Cassie lowered her eyes, her delicate face expressionless.

"Cassie, doesn't it make you angry to see people like that?" Laura asked.

"What's the use of being angry?" Cassie said with a self-mocking smile, her expression tinged with sadness. "But that's reality. My parents, who raised me, can abandon me. Arthur, who grew up with me, can leave me. I have no family or loved ones left."

Laura looked at her, feeling both heartbroken and furious.

"My dad said it himself. At Height Architectural Decoration Company, I can only be Olivia's assistant. If I don't like it, I can leave. If I do, I can stay." Cassie forced a bitter smile. "I didn't like it, so I left."

Laura encouraged her, "Don't say that. You are the best."

Just then, the restaurant manager came over. "Ms. Miller, the private room I reserved for you is ready. Please come this way."

At that moment, Charlotte's voice came from behind. "I brought some friends for dinner. Do you have any private rooms available?"

The manager was momentarily stunned, but then his eyes lit up when he saw Sarah next to her. "Are you the singer Sarah?"

Sarah smiled, and Charlotte laughed. "You have a keen eye. I told Sarah the food here is great, and she happened to be free today, so I brought her along."
