Nathaniel's voice was heavy with concern as he spoke, "I never anticipated Megan's transformation into such a monstrous figure. Joseph and the others certainly didn't see it coming either." His words hung in the air, a testament to the unexpected turn of events.
Cassie responded, her voice resigned, "Nathaniel, we are powerless in this situation. If we attempt to cure Joseph forcibly, he will be reduced to a fool. I've decided to let it be. I'm giving up." Even though Joseph's love for her had faded, at least he still functioned as a normal person when not under hypnosis, maintaining his status as the most respected and wealthiest man in Madison.
Nathaniel turned to Cassie, his sympathy genuine, "And what about you, Cassie?"
Cassie lowered her gaze to her belly, her hand gently caressing it. "Nathaniel, if you truly respect Joseph, you must assist me. Megan has the power to harm Joseph. If my two children were to fall into her hands in the future, they would undoubtedly suffer at her mercy."
Cassie's plea struck a chord with Nathaniel. " Cassie, rest assured. As long as it benefits Joseph's children, I will do everything within my power to help," he assured her.
Before Nathaniel could finish speaking, a call from Joseph interrupted him. "Where are you? It's Megan's birthday today. Head to the club and arrange the celebration. I want to surprise her," Joseph commanded, his voice heavy with authority.
"I'll be there right away," Nathaniel responded, casting a pitying glance at Cassie before leaving. " Cassie."
"Go to Joseph's side, follow his instructions, and don't reveal anything," Cassie advised. "Find an opportunity to collaborate with me. We need to convince Joseph and the Hernandez family that I've miscarried. Only then can I escape."
Nathaniel was taken aback. "You want to leave?"
"Yes. It's the only way my children can survive," Cassie confessed, her eyes filled with fatigue. Nathaniel nodded without hesitation. Joseph had shown him gratitude, and he was willing to do anything to protect Joseph's children.
After Nathaniel's departure, the Hernandez family promptly sent a car to escort Cassie back to the mansion. That night, as Cassie lay in her empty bed, a call from David interrupted the silence.
" Cassie, what's happening between you and Joseph? I heard you're pregnant. How could he treat you like this?" David's voice was filled with anger.
Cassie remained silent for a moment, her fingers tightly gripping the blanket. She forced a nonchalant smile and responded, "Did you hear something?"
"I didn't just hear it, I saw it with my own eyes," David retorted. "Tonight, Joseph rented the entire club to celebrate Megan's birthday. He had fresh roses and a top-notch French chef flown in from overseas. He even set off fireworks by the sea for two hours. And he gifted her a luxury villa worth five billion dollars. Now, everyone in New York knows about it."
"Is that so?" Cassie's voice was hoarse as she managed to utter the words. Hearing about Joseph's extravagant display of affection for Megan felt like a knife slicing through her flesh. She was consumed with jealousy, but what could she do? The man she loved was bewitched.
Of course, Joseph had also treated Megan well before that.
" Cassie, I should have done everything to prevent this. He claimed to love you, but look how quickly he changed his mind," David seethed.
"David, please stop. I'm tired and I need to rest," Cassie pleaded.
" Cassie, don't be afraid. No matter what happens, I am your friend. You can always turn to me for help. I'm doing well now, and I'm no longer someone Joseph can easily trample on," David reassured her gently.
"Okay, thank you," Cassie responded, her voice barely a whisper.
