Chapter 381
On the precipice of tears, Laura Miller found herself awash in a sea of guilt.
"Oh, so it's all your doing. I should have known! You're nothing but a fountain of lies, Laura—not a single word of truth ever escapes your lips," Michael's words were laced with venom.
"Silence, pretty boy!" Laura retorted, her words sharp as a knife.
"What did you just say?" Michael's handsome visage seemed to freeze over.
"Did I stutter? What sort of man dons a pink shirt, appears more attractive than the majority of women, and gossips more than they do? Do you even qualify as a man?" Laura challenged, her voice filled with derision.
"You... I'll demonstrate what I'm capable of..." Michael was on the brink of launching himself at Laura when Noah Collins swiftly intervened, wrapping his arms around him. "Bro, rein in your temper."
"Rein it in? Did you not hear her belittling me?" Michael seethed, his anger palpable.
Laura Miller twisted the knife further, "Don't lose your cool, handsome. Even in your rage, you remain quite the looker."
Cassie clutched her head in pain. "Laura, enough. This is our boss, Michael—the CEO of Ocean Blue."
Laura Miller's mind went blank. What?
Indeed, she'd never encountered the CEO, but as an employee, she was aware that the boss was named Michael—a man rumored to be strikingly handsome and disciplined...
Could it be, this man?
"Laura Miller, you've sealed your fate," Michael sneered, his chilling laughter echoing in the room.
"Fine, I understand. Cross the boss and you're out. I'll gather my belongings when I return," Laura responded nonchalantly.
"Don't forget the contract you signed with the company. It's not your standard employment agreement; there's a confidentiality clause. Leave now, and I doubt anyone in this industry would give you a second look," Michael threatened.
"Michael, my friend merely lost her temper because of me. Please, don't hold it against her," Cassie implored, directing her plea toward Joseph. "Laura can be quite forthright, but imagine if you were the one disfigured—wouldn't your friends be furious? Like when Mr. Song intervened on your behalf..."
"Wait, he did what to you?" Laura's gaze bore into Michael. "You're bullying a woman now? What sort of man behaves like that?"
"Continue with your tirade, and I might just have to demonstrate my masculinity," Michael warned her.
"Enough! Cease this petty squabble; this is a hospital ward. The patients require peace and tranquility," Joseph interjected coldly, his words silencing the room instantly. His deep-set eyes scanned the room, finally resting on Michael. "Come on, Mike, be the bigger person. Laura Miller is a friend of Cassie's. There's no need to instigate a conflict with her."
Michael cast a sidelong glance at Laura, catching her rolling her eyes and turning away. "Really, Joe? Ungrateful much? I was merely defending you when she was belittling you, purely out of kindness."
Noah Collins pulled at Michael's arm, whispering urgently, "Mike, let it go. I understand where Laura's coming from. Honestly, seeing Cassie in this state, it angers me at Joe too. Hell, I even blame myself. I should have never introduced Joe to the Madison scene in the first place."
