Chapter 109
Joseph stood up, sneering, "So, do you think you can just call yourself were crazy back then and end everything after all the crap you pulled and said to me? Who swore she'd only be good to me and promised to do everything I asked? Who said my flaws were just charming quirks to her, that she loved me just the way I am?"
Cassie thought, 'Damn it, why does he remember all those sweet nothings so clearly?'
The more Joseph talked, the angrier he got.
Cassie looked totally lost, nervously asking, "Did I really say all that mushy stuff?"
Joseph stared at her in disbelief for a moment before letting out a bitter laugh.
He thought, 'How could someone be so heartless? Saying all those things and then forgetting them. What a piece of work.'
Cassie seriously thought he might throw the Spaghetti at her, so she shrank back a bit.
"Hey, you're this mad... you didn't fall for me, did you?" she asked.
"No way!" Joseph snapped, and his voice rose. "You? Seriously?"
His high-and-mighty attitude was really getting on Cassie's nerves.
"What makes you think you're so much better than me? You're just a lawyer. I'm a chief designer. We probably make about the same money," Cassie said.
Joseph gave her a once-over, his gaze dripping with disdain.
Didn't Cassie even know who he really was?
Cassie, not backing down, said, "Oh, come on. You're just riding on the coattails of being Madison Noah's buddy. You think you're all that?"
Joseph felt like she was giving him a stomachache from sheer frustration.
Cassie, seeing him go silent, thought she'd hit his pride.
She added, "If you don't want the Spaghetti, just toss them. I won’t cook for you any more. You have to know that I used to cook for you because I was into you. Now that I'm not, I don't owe you anything."
She finished, eyeing Joseph's gloomy face with some fear, grabbed her bag, and stood up.
Joseph's icy gaze locked onto her, his voice seething. "Cassie, out of all the women who chased me, you gave up the quickest. Have you ever liked me?"
Cassie felt her heart race under his stare, suddenly feeling guilty.
Could she tell him she chased him because she mistook him for David?
Now that she knew he wasn't him, she wasn't about to waste any more time on him.
But if she told the truth, he might just kill her.
"Answer me." Joseph suddenly grabbed her arm, pinning her against the dining table.
"Of course I did." Cassie steadied herself, trying not to let him see through her. "You're so handsome. The first time I saw you, I was totally smitten."
"Then why did you stop liking me?" Joseph leaned in, their noses almost touching.
The sweet scent of her perfume filled his senses, reminding him of that kiss in the restaurant, so perfect he didn't want it to end. He almost kissed her again.
Cassie could feel the heat radiating from his body, making her even more nervous, babbling, "Because, after a while, I realized you're just ordinary, And your personality is awful. I couldn't take it."
Joseph had been about to kiss her, but he paused. His eyes darkened and anger bubbled up inside him.
He said, "If you liked me, shouldn't you have liked my temper too? Was your 'like' that shallow and fleeting?"
