Chapter 249
""Quiet now, aren't we?"" Walter smirked. ""What's Richard but a speck of dust? Haven't you figured out why his attitude toward you changed so drastically?""
Olivia was stunned. She glanced at Joseph and suddenly remembered he shared the Hernandez surname. ""No way! I haven't heard of a Joseph in the Hernandez family.""
""How much do you think you know about the Hernandez family?"" Walter taunted. ""Let me enlighten you. Our Mr. Hernandez is the eldest of all the siblings. He is already leading the Hernandez empire.""
The realization buzzed in Olivia's head. She thought she was dreaming. Everyone knew about the mysterious Mr. Joseph Hernandez, son of Mabel. A low-profile man, yet notoriously ruthless.
At twenty, he joined the company, and when his uncle defied him, he snapped the man's leg in front of everyone.
Since taking over, he had expanded their overseas reach with lightning speed, even breaking into the international markets of telecommunications, finance, and technology.
He was rumored to be among the top ten in global wealth rankings. The word on the street was that he was the richest and most enigmatic man in Madison.
""Impossible! You're lying!"" Olivia seethed with envy. How could Cassie land a man like that?
""Do I need to lie to you? That fool Richard wets his pants at the sight of Mr. Hernandez,"" Walter sneered. ""Olivia, Mr. Hernandez didn't want to get his hands dirty, but you crossed the line by drugging Cassie and leaking those photos to the press.""
Shocked and trembling, Olivia sank to her knees in front of Joseph. ""Mr. Hernandez, I've been foolish. I’m so stupid! Please have mercy on me.""
Joseph kicked her away. His rage clearly wanted to annihilate her. ""Did you think you could escape my wrath?""
""No, no, it wasn't me! I didn't take the pictures,"" Olivia pleaded, shaking her head. ""A stranger sent them to me, I swear. That night, yes, I drugged Cassie, but then David showed up and destroyed the room's video.""
Mr. Hernandez's eyebrows knotted in surprise. ""It wasn't you?""
""I swear it wasn't me,"" Olivia insisted, spitting blood as several of her teeth were already missing. ""If I had those photos, I would've used them against Cassie by now. Why would I let her secure the CEO position and have my parents sent to prison?""
""Your vows are worthless,"" Joseph retorted, his thick brows arching thoughtfully. He believed Olivia, but if it wasn't her, then who? A smirk tugged at his lips as he contemplated the events of that night. Other than Cassie, the only person involved was David.
David was no simpleton. Despite knowing of his affections, Cassie still chose to maintain a friendship with him. David, who had been managing international offices since his youth, could he really be that naïve? Joseph didn't buy it.
Sensing Joseph's thoughts, Olivia quickly pleaded, ""Mr. Hernandez, please let me go. I promise I won't trouble Cassie ever again. I'll leave Madison.""
""Do you honestly believe I'd let you leave peacefully?"" Joseph chuckled evilly. ""I've dug into your past. Kidnapped as a child and raised in the country, sleeping with a landowner at fifteen, kept by a wealthy sponsor in high school, even had an abortion. It’s such a shame that even after returning to the Brooks family, you couldn't stay out of trouble.""
Olivia's face turned ashen. These were the skeletons she had buried deep. She thought they were hidden, yet he had unearthed them all. This man was terrifying.
""Since you're so fond of men,"" Joseph drawled, ""I think it's time for you to get married.""
Joseph walked away without another glance. Shortly after, an ugly old man in his fifties entered the room. His gaze on Olivia was hungry as he swallowed hard. ""Did Mr. Hernandez assign her to me?""
Olivia's gaze shot toward Walter in horror. ""Please don't do this to me! I'll be with you instead, in any way you want, just like Richard.""
