Chapter 1145 You Will Pay the Price

"You!" Benjamin scowled at Laura, his heart sinking when he saw her swollen face. He realized he had hit her hard.

"Benjamin, how many times have you hit me? Three years ago and now again," Laura said calmly. "Do you think I'm easy to bully?"

"Why didn't you tell me he hit you before?" Michael snapped. "If I'd known, I would've hit him harder."

Laura stared at Michael, surprised by his anger. They'd always been rivals.

Julia narrowed her eyes. Despite Benjamin's bruises, his refined look didn't match his actions. Laura was pregnant, and any harm to her could affect the baby.

"You've got guts hitting someone from the Jude family," Julia said.

Benjamin trembled. Julia's calm eyes and the heavy atmosphere made him regret his actions. "Ms. Jude, I'm sorry. I was too impulsive."

"You hit Laura, so you're done for," Julia said, raising an eyebrow.

"But Mr. Jude beat me up too," Benjamin protested.

Julia's smile was icy. "I never thought an outsider could bully someone from the Jude family."

Benjamin broke into a cold sweat. Isla stepped up, saying, "This is my fault. If there's punishment, let it be on me."

"Isla," Benjamin's voice wavered.

With tears, Isla said, "Don't say anything. It's my fault. I overestimated myself."

Benjamin clenched his fists, realizing his mistake.

Laura watched them coldly, feeling disgusted.

Julia gave Isla a forced smile. "If you want to show deep affection, pick the right time. Your act could cost you."

Isla was stunned.

"You're a member of the Tarro family, right? I'll remember that," Julia said, then glanced at Michael and Laura. "Let's go."

Laura nodded and left with Michael, not looking back at Benjamin.

Benjamin stared at Laura's retreating figure, realizing the gap between them. 'I actually hit Laura. Am I crazy? She's the future president's goddaughter. How could I offend her?'

"Benjamin, what do we do now?" Isla asked, worried about the Tarro family's fate. If it fell on hard times, she would be just an ordinary girl, not a wealthy heiress.

"I have no idea," Benjamin said, shaking his head.

Julia was out of his league. The Jude family and the Miller family, under Elliott's leadership, had surpassed the Hayes Group. Benjamin couldn't even compete with the Miller family.

Isla gritted her teeth. "Benjamin, I've got an idea. We got beaten today, right? If we release the video of Michael hitting us, it'll cause a huge stir. The Jude family is powerful, and Carl's set to be the next president, but who knows what'll happen? Plenty of people want to take Carl down. We can use this to our advantage."

Benjamin was stunned, looking at Isla like he was truly seeing her for the first time.

Isla started crying. "I have no choice. The Jude family has pushed you too far."

"Isla, Carl is the best candidate for president. A president shapes a country's future," Benjamin said, pursing his lips. "If the wrong person gets in..."

"Benjamin, look at how arrogant Michael and Julia are. What kind of people does the Jude family raise? And Laura's already so full of herself. If Carl becomes president, how will we survive?" Isla said bitterly. "We're just regular folks. I want to take care of you and my family and live a good life."

Benjamin frowned, hesitating. After a long pause, he clenched his fist and nodded reluctantly.

The car headed towards the Jude family.

Halfway there, Julia asked the driver to stop at a pharmacy. Soon, the driver returned with ice packs and medicine.

"Ms. Miller, put the ice pack on your face first, then use the medicine."

"Thank you," Laura said, surprised by Julia's thoughtfulness.

Laura applied the ice pack, and the burning pain eased immediately.

Michael realized he hadn't thought about getting medicine. He figured the swelling would go down on its own in a few days.

'No wonder I'm still single,' he thought. 'I need to step up my game.'

"How about we go to the hospital for a check-up, just to be safe?" he suggested.

"No, except for my face, I feel fine," Laura refused.

"But..."

"Benjamin hit her face, not her stomach," Julia cut in, exasperated.

Julia thought, 'If Michael keeps nagging, Laura will think he only cares about the baby, not her.'

Michael pursed his lips, frustrated. He was just worried the slap might affect the baby.

"You did well today," Julia suddenly praised him.

Michael was flattered. "But the news about me hitting someone is all over the media. Grandpa and the others will be furious."

"Didn't you think about that when you hit Benjamin?" Julia reminded him coolly.

Laura quickly said, "Julia, it was because of me. I'll take responsibility."

"You misunderstood. If I blamed Michael, I wouldn't have praised him," Julia said with a cold smile. "Benjamin and Isla are disgusting. Don't worry about the next steps. I'll handle it."

Laura was shocked. She'd heard about Julia's ruthlessness. If Julia took action, it wouldn't be as gentle as what she and Michael had done.
