Chapter 353
Seeing the bandages on Cassie's beautiful face, David's heart ached. "Is this how Joseph takes care of you? Letting you get hurt like this? What is he doing? Come with me."
"Mr. Foster, it seems like you've forgotten the earlier warning," Walter intervened, blocking David's path.
"But I thought Joseph would look after her," David said, anger blazing in his eyes. "If he can't protect her, why take her away? To prove his prowess as Mr. Hernandez?"
Cassie froze. Wasn't that just it?
Up until now, she couldn't believe Joseph really cared for her. Loving someone wasn't about hurting and trampling on them.
"This is between Miss Brooks and Joseph; you're just an outsider." Walter frowned, a warning edge in his voice. "Step aside, or it won't be pretty."
"David, please go," Cassie spoke softly, a gentle reminder in her words, "You've forgotten what you promised me."
David faltered; he had texted her, vowing to become strong enough to rescue her.
"Alright." He clenched his fists, his gaze filled with restrained agony. "Take care of yourself."
"I will." Cassie nodded, nearly in tears.
In New York, it turned out that David had always been the one who truly cared for her.
She regretted her past resistance to him, realizing too late who had been genuinely good to her.
"Miss Brooks, let's go," Walter interrupted their locked gazes.
As Cassie walked away, David watched until she was out of sight. Then, he dialed the mysterious number with a heavy heart, "When are you going to deal with Joseph? All I want now is for him to be dead!"
"What's the hurry? You're just beginning to grow, and Joseph is not someone who can be taken down easily." The voice on the line chuckled darkly. "Everything is in place. Just do as I've instructed."

At the hospital
"SMACK."
A slap landed across Joseph's face. "You ungrateful brute!" Walter seethed, "After all these years of my undivided support, this is how you repay me?"
"Oh, Dad, Joseph didn't mean it. He's just been seduced by that temptress," intervened Celeste quickly, trying to mediate. She gave Joseph a sly look, signaling, "Did you hear that? Apologize to your grandfather and promise to stay away from Cassie from now on."
"That's impossible. I have decided to marry her." Joseph stood his ground, his eyes steady, his voice firm.
The room inhaled sharply at his words; Walter flushed with embarrassment. "She really brainwashes you. To marry her, you'll have to step over my dead body."
Mabel chimed in with frustration, "You've already sent your grandmother to the hospital; now do you want to do the same to your grandfather? Now that everyone knows about your affair with Luna, and tonight Cassie showed up with Liam as his date—what will they say when they hear you're with Cassie tomorrow? The Hernandez family will be the laughingstock."
Though Mabel had been fond of Cassie, the current scandal sickened her.
"That's right." Uncle Isaac joined in. "I just got word that the Hernandez Foundation event tonight was a complete disaster. While the media has yet to report it, the rumors are flying. Joseph, this is a major blow to your reputation; if you insist on this folly, the negative news on the internet will only get worse."
"If you still want to sit in the CEO's chair, you need to marry Luna immediately to squash these rumors," Walter said angrily.
"That's not happening." Joseph remained unmoved.
"You..." Walter was so furious he was at a loss for words.
