Chapter 1434 In My Eyes, You Are a Wonderful Girl
"Since you know it's your own marriage, why don't you care more? I'm tired of talking to you. You can drag this out, but Laura's done. I can tell she's serious," Eric sighed. "Just let her go, and let yourself go too."
"Let go?" Michael was so worked up he looked like he might explode. "You guys said Laura was perfect and pushed me to marry her. Now you want me to divorce her?"
Michael hung up and smashed his phone.
Then he stormed to his car and sped off to Laura's company.
When Michael got there, the office was closed.
Laura's secretary, Brynn, walked by and said, "Laura hasn't been in for a few days."
"When's she coming back?" Michael's face was dark, making Brynn nervous.
"I don't know," Brynn took a step back. "But Laura said she's already working on the divorce, and I don't need to tell you her schedule."
"She wants to divorce me? No way."
Michael punched the wall and stormed off.
As he left, he kicked over a trash can in frustration.
At the Presidential Palace, Laura got a call from Brynn, ruining her morning. "I probably won't be in the office for the next few days. If he shows up again, just ignore him."
Michael didn't even like her that much, so why was he acting like he couldn't let her go?
She didn't think she had that much of a hold on Michael.
She just didn't want to drag things out with him any longer.
That afternoon, after getting Maeve to sleep, Laura got a call from Cassie. "Come out. We know you're in a bad mood, so we'll help you relax and celebrate your upcoming divorce."
"We?" Laura was puzzled.
"Bernice just finished filming and is back for a break," Cassie said.
"Okay," Laura replied softly, agreeing.
After instructing the nanny, Laura drove to the private club Cassie mentioned.
When Laura arrived, Cassie had already booked a private room. Cassie and Bernice were sitting on high stools, singing.
Bernice, a famous actress, had an aura that shone brightly, and her long legs made her look like she was performing a concert just by sitting there.
Cassie was also beautiful. Sitting next to Bernice, they could easily form a duo.
The waiter pouring drinks glanced at Cassie and Bernice, looking so mesmerized that he seemed absent-minded.
Seeing Laura come in, Cassie greeted her.
Laura sat quietly on the side, watching Cassie and Bernice sing.
Cassie was carefree, while Bernice was bright and charming. Only Laura seemed drained of energy.
After the song ended, Cassie and Bernice walked over together.
"Sweetie, I picked a song for you to celebrate your upcoming freedom," Cassie handed the microphone to Laura.
Laura remained silent.
"Freedom from what?" Bernice suddenly asked.
Laura was taken aback, "Cassie didn't tell you?"
"I got here a few minutes before you, and Cassie pulled me to sing as soon as I arrived," Bernice said, raising an eyebrow at Laura's haggard appearance. "Are you having problems with Michael?"
"We're getting a divorce," Laura sighed. "That jerk Michael has been secretly seeing Megan, the woman Cassie and I despise the most. You don't know her, but she's a real piece of work. I hate her so much I could scream."
Bernice reached for her drink, her arm stiffening a bit at Laura's words. She paused for a moment before grabbing the glass.
Cassie took a sip of her red wine, her eyes flicking to Bernice's hand but staying silent.
"You're amazing, and Michael doesn't see that?" Bernice casually swirled her wine glass, a flash of anger in her eyes.
"Michael's always had a thing for Megan," Laura shrugged. "Megan's super manipulative. She's done all sorts of awful stuff, yet Michael still feels guilty about her. I can't compete with Megan, even Cassie lost to her once."
"Then Megan must be something else," Bernice said, a faint smile playing on her lips.
Cassie patted Laura's back, "Don't let Megan haunt you. Getting divorced isn't the end of the world. Look at you—you're beautiful and wealthy. Without Michael, you can have any guy you want. That waiter pouring drinks was pretty cute."
Laura's mouth twitched, "Did you pick this place on purpose? Aren't you worried Joseph will get jealous?"
"I explained it to him. He gets it. Besides, he's not dumb enough to compare himself to my good friends," Cassie said with a smile.
Laura was touched, "I appreciate it, but I'm really scared of relationships now. That waiter was young and handsome, but he's probably just working here for the money."
Cassie sneered, "So what? Those guys go for young, beautiful women who are also after money. Do you think the guys are that charming? Take Megan, for example. If Michael weren't the president's nephew, would she even look at him?"
Bernice nodded, "I know several powerful women in the entertainment industry who go for young men. They get what they need and live freely."
Laura was horrified, "Are you two planning to turn me into a sugar mama?"
Bernice laughed, "Sugar mamas are usually older. You're only twenty-six, young and beautiful. Getting these guys is just a matter of you beckoning. Cassie probably just wants to tell you not to be discouraged by failed relationships, right?"
Cassie was surprised that Bernice understood her so well, "Exactly. Laura, you've had two failed relationships in a row. I don't want you to have a shadow in your heart. You might think you're a failure and not attractive, but that's not true. You just haven't met the right person."
Laura was silent, her eyes welling up with emotion.
Yeah, she did have a shadow.
She even doubted herself.
Maybe she had some personality issues that made it hard for guys to like her.
She even thought she never wanted to fall in love again.
"In my eyes, you're a wonderful girl," Bernice handed her a tissue. "The problem isn't you; it's that too many men can't measure up."
